The fact the millenium series has xl turf and isn't using it smacks of cost cutting, if so then lower the entry fee!
I'm playing devils advocate here, not trying to necessarily justify anything Pedro, Laurent, or the MS do, will do, or have done.

But maybe cost cutting IS taking place. Maybe it is an attempt to stop losing money. So cutting cost AND lowering entry fees would be silly. No?

I don't know. I have no idea what the financial state of the MS is. But, I do know for PSP, if I didn't find ways to cut costs as well as charge higher entry fees than in previous years, we would not be able to stay in business. And I use the word business loosely. It's a lot more like a charity than any players will ever believe.

But, on a general note, I don't think many players have any real idea of just what all is involved in running these events. The logistical, financial, and operational work is on a scale that most can't realize or appreciate. I played for 15 years. I was involved in all aspects of the game and the industry. I'm no genius, but I'm far from a dummy. I came into this side of things waving a flag of reform and beating a drum to let the promoters know they better get themselves in gear. As I look back now, I realize that I had no idea what was actually involved. I am willing to bet that 99% of the people who talk so badly about the job event organizers do would do a far worse job of it, if they were given the task.

I'm not going to get too involved in this discussion. There may well be some specifics that need to be "corrected" with this particular event. I don't want to get bogged down in the specific shortcomings of someone I know nothing about. Nor do I want to take away from what may be a needed discussion by over generalizing everything.

So then what exactly are you trying to do? Are you taking this opportunity to make your case one step removed, as it were? ;) Or is it sympathy pains?:)
I almost hate doing this but---

[Disclaimer: Lane is one of the handful of peeps in Pball who has my unreserved respect, for what little that is worth (Not redeemable for cash value and no substitutes will be accepted), and while I agree in general about player comparisons ...]

It isn't a players problem nor should they be expected to care or make allowances or much of anything else except pony up whatever the league(s) charge to participate.

The issue, if any, that needs addressing is communication and expectation. If League A says we will have X,Y and Z this season and then fails to deliver, for whatever reason, that league should expect to hear about and have to deal with some unhappy customers who may very well have made plans and paid monies in part based on what was promised and then not delivered. Everyone who has been around this game long enough realizes how things shake down and that stuff happens but the cynicism and distrust that exists is almost solely--as I see it--predicated on the practices of the leagues and their past failures to address these kinds of issues directly and honestly.

This, btw, for anyone who doesn't know is not aimed at Lane (not aimed at you, buddy) because the PSP under Lane handles this stuff much better than in the past. I am only commenting on the general notion of where the disconnect is between players and organizations and who ought to be held accountable.

I don't envy you Lane, having to feild questions aimed at completely different people on the other side of the world sucks.
Some one from the MS should be dealing with this, not you. How you could be anything other than at least 'one step removed' is beyond me.

And telling people how much things cost to put on doesn't work either. They won't believe you. Better to get back in your Ferrari and head back to your mansion in the hills....

I knew it! Event organisers don't care about paintball, all they care about is money and fruit. The *******s! It's all take take take, not like the players..

They have obviously ****d up, but the event still deserves the benefit of the doubt...maybe if they manage to focus on the core things that players want like reffing etc it'll work out. Like Pete said earlier they could manage to pull something out of the hat/ass...

Maybe it's a cunning PR strategy... lower expectations to classic Ped event levels, then BOOM surprise everyone with an extra porta-loo or something.
