I'm playing devils advocate here, not trying to necessarily justify anything Pedro, Laurent, or the MS do, will do, or have done.
But maybe cost cutting IS taking place. Maybe it is an attempt to stop losing money. So cutting cost AND lowering entry fees would be silly. No?
I don't know. I have no idea what the financial state of the MS is. But, I do know for PSP, if I didn't find ways to cut costs as well as charge higher entry fees than in previous years, we would not be able to stay in business. And I use the word business loosely. It's a lot more like a charity than any players will ever believe.
But, on a general note, I don't think many players have any real idea of just what all is involved in running these events. The logistical, financial, and operational work is on a scale that most can't realize or appreciate. I played for 15 years. I was involved in all aspects of the game and the industry. I'm no genius, but I'm far from a dummy. I came into this side of things waving a flag of reform and beating a drum to let the promoters know they better get themselves in gear. As I look back now, I realize that I had no idea what was actually involved. I am willing to bet that 99% of the people who talk so badly about the job event organizers do would do a far worse job of it, if they were given the task.
I'm not going to get too involved in this discussion. There may well be some specifics that need to be "corrected" with this particular event. I don't want to get bogged down in the specific shortcomings of someone I know nothing about. Nor do I want to take away from what may be a needed discussion by over generalizing everything.
