M25 Marshal (2Bornot2B that is the ?)

Ralph

BAD TO THE BONE
Where do i begin ? where..........long pause
Right, 'the refs are supposed to know the rules' mmmmm, SO ARE THE PLAYERS but they push and push which is fine until it go's against them then it's the marshals fault. The refs can only interpret the rules, in a split second sometimes.
Think of this way when they get it wrong in your favour they get right when they get right in the other guys favour they get it wrong.
I was told on good authority that one pro team will not play their am team in training as the am's constantly cheat.
If that's true what chance do the marshals stand ?

The first few games nobody knows exactly how each field will play but the marshals are expected to know. WHY ? and this after they have ensured that no one breaks early and has their gun facing down and away. two basic concepts that players fail to master but the judges are expected to marshal this and then be in a position half way up the field to catch the runner that has caught two on the break, slides in to his bunker and is clean,ye gods the game is 10 seconds old and it's all ready a shambles.

Why were marshals on car parking duty when they should have been preparing themselves. Was it because the players after being told that they could only unload in the car park promptly disappeared. Again they seem to have their own set of rules.
It did not seem to matter that the very nice man who made sparklie sign a contract stating that he could pull the plug at anytime if he saw anything he did not like was having a fit from first up because the car park was full and the grass area empty. It was resolved in the nick of time by marshals taking reg numbers. They should have been else where.

I did have some matters to deal with on the day, some from marshals some from players
1: A team lose their first game, much bitching of marshals: i speak to the marshals who say that the team were trying to boss them about and they were having none of it.Go back to the captain and impart on him that we are not going to fall out on the first game are we ?. No more complaints about marshals from them.

2: the use of staining paint : i only had one complaint about this from one player. i did not get to the bottom of it as i had no further complaints to deal with. It does not mean that i ignored it just that it was not a priority at the time.

3 : 'it states in the rules that game start is 30/10/game on and we only got 10 sec then game on'. I explained that we were running some 20-30 mins behind and that if the field ultimate wanted to try and claw back some time by starting at 10 secs that was fine by me & to check when they go on the field.

4: A teams guns infringed the rules regarding being able to be fired without pulling the trigger. I had this checked out by an emminent gun tech who passed them fit to use but said they could be set up a little less sensitive.

5: A couple of guns runnig fast: the judges tried to make them infringe the rules but were unable to:mad:

6:Over the top abusive language: made a start to stamp it out and will have it written in the rules for further legs.

7: Shocwave AM- Tigers pro game. It's a bit long winded to tell but in essence the game was awarded to the tigers. Shock a bit peeved to say the least and i think the Field ultimate could have made a nuteral call. Tigers did not want to know about a replay which seemed to be an easy way out for me, so i decided to back the Field ultimates call. Shock have decided that they will not be playing any further legs. Which i'm sorry about for lots of reasons not least as they were really good when they marshaled and as for the tigers. They chose not to help me out that was their perrogative...............

AND THAT,CONSIDERING THE AMOUNT OF GAMES IS ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT WERE BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION.

So where has all the bitching come from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I havent heard the usual complaint about refs being biased yet.
You cant really because the Smart Parts field was the only one marshaled by a 'team' and no one is going to be silly enough to question Dave stewart. WHY ? it's called respect that's why. Simple as that. I simply dont believe that dave and his boys got it right every time it's just not possible but he still gets a pat the back from me for running a good field. Not because his stare sends a shiver down my spine even though i count him as a friend but because he did a good job.
Fossil was running field 2 He's been playing for over 10 years and marshaled at a couple of 'Mayhems' but because you dont know him you dont respect him therefore then he's 'sh*t' also on that field was.His son 'dino' a former NWC player currently with Imperial who has played all over the world he's 'sh*t' as well. Now here's the bit i like: John Bonnich was also on that field and he's sh*t as well. Best you dont take your gun to be serviced by him:D
Field 4 Trevor Giddings a former Pred who won mayhem a couple of times with them. You dont know him so, he's Sh*t as well !!!!!
i could go on and on. yeh why not.
Field 3 Leon, (whom i didn't know) but was recommended as field ultimate by sparklie so her judgement is sh*t as well.this is getting a bit silly dont you think?.
There is a serious lack of respect aimed at all the marshals which is just not fair. it was a hot long tireing day they ALL DID THEIR BEST and i thank them for their hard work.
Before the posts on the boards 100% of them had told me that they enjoyed it and most were up for marshaling another, expect to get only 10% now and what annoys me,is most of the slagging (and they are entitled to their oppinion) has come from people that probably wont be playing again and enjoyed playing football and throwing nerd rockets around!!!!!
Not enough 1-4-1's mmmmmmmmmmmmm i could give marshals a quota per event like the police do with speeding tickets. So it would be pot luck as to when you would get 1-4-1nd but it would happen. i could have lots of fun with that..... Now who dont i like.....

Lord Squire of millenium was seen on site and he seem to be impressed overall with set whole set up. I'm not saying he was endorsing it in anyway but he showed sparklie alot of respect just by turning up and giving it a look its a shame that players dont give marshals the same respect!!!

Talking of milleniums which i must add cost a whole lot more to play in and therefore have a whole rack of resources to use was being used as the yard stick with which to judge the M25 series. There is no comparison. The facilities are better, the teams are better and yes the judges as well. What about the weather, that was better at the M25 also No customs-no flights-no johnny forienger marshals-drive on the left-proper tea and coffee.get the point?

Thanks alot, i will be back warts and all! It may have been my first time out and my inexperiance may have shown but the Guys showed me where to stand how to keep my cool which those that know me know how hard that is! and most of all a little respect, my calls to my knowledge was firm but fare and not excesive as being a player i did find this quite itimidating. But the lads were easy going and help me find my feet. I did try to go and do a Marshal course but unfortunately am still waiting on date to finish course.
As for the afore metioned team not playing the M25 again thats a shame i would have loved a chance to show them how strict i can be and would this have been more to their liking.
Obviously i am open to practical constuctive critisim and will always listen to any opinions and advice on how better i might Marshal.
Im tough as boots if i can deal with 300 very drunk people in a night club i think i can deal with a few people whom think "im s**t too!"....Like this face really cares (doorbird stoney grimis)GRRRRRRRRRR
Thanks a lot to all the marshals they were the fab well done.CUSoon.

Ralph,

It may of been an easy way out for you but it would of been the wrong decision. The field ultimate had a meeting with the marshals and they unanimously agreed to award Tigers the max. One of Shocks AM's players played on horribly and after the dust had settled there was one tiger and one shock left with a couple of minutes on the clock. The time ran out with both players still alive and after the game I said the player who played on should of been 1-4-1 which would of left one tiger who could of hung the flag in plenty of time. The marshals agreed, unanimously, and thats what happened.

We felt in this case a replay would of indicated to other teams you can play on and not get punished.

Sorry if it made life a little harder for you and I'm sorry Shock AM feel they have to boycott the M25 but we truly honestly feel justice was served and it is a bitter pill Shock AM will have to swallow.

Sounds to me

like it's Shock AM that are in a lose/lose situation here.

If what went down is as sykes says then the result is right. Shock AM need to look at themselves, putthe dummy back in and get on with it.

If they know the decision is wrong - well my advice is the same , toys back in the pram and go back and prove to everyone that the decision was wrong.

I would also ask them - where else you going to go that offers facilities and playing surface that outdoes many Millennium events??

Your loss boys - have a long hard think about it.

Ralph - good idea posting this stuff - maybe dont do it every time but hopefully some teams will read it and see what its really like. And you are right - these events need support - not bitching.

MASSIVE respect to Patrina and all those involved!!

Hey guys, I agree that Patrina and Liz and so on are doing a good job but thats not what is in question. The Fact is that some of the judges did not put the effort in, they did not check players when they should have and just were not looking at the players properly. The judges seemed to be standing on the wrong side of the players so could not see the paint going in. I saw several judges watching the game at the other end of the field. I know that this was not all the judges and I'm not having a dig at everyone but I did see this going on.

Come on guys its not brain surgery, your a judge all you need to do is watch your player/s and not the game, if your on the correct side of the player you will see the hits and pull them out. If you need to move around players as the paint coming in changes then move, if a player calls for a paint check you won't need to run in and check the player you will already be there. Dont be affraid of players either, if you saw a hit, paint on the player or not pull them out.

As for the Shock AM game I did not see it but a result is a result guys these things happen just live with it.

See you at the next leg guys.

Hmmm

Given the amount of criticism by players it is obvious that there are problems (I wasnt playing but i didnt see too much wrong - in fact saw one excellent decision in the Storm/Ecstacy game on the Smart Parts field that took some balls to call).

But lets keep the criticism CONSTRUCTIVE.

SJT's thread elsewhere is just destructive. The obvious effort that has gone into this series needs supporting. Keep knocking it and it won't be around next year - who needs the grief??

If marshalls aren't performing - then I dont know what to say - but I do know that this is a problem the world over (beleive me) so I'd say to all teams - go play it - keep it clean and make the marshalls jobs easier.

At the moment ALOT of teams just play on and push the rules - its little wonder that these guys struggle - and the worse the bleating gets - the fewer judges will step forward - the worse it will become.

Get off the marshalls backs you big whingeing tarts:mad: these boys and girls give up their weekends (which they would probably spend balling) to make sure you guys have a tourney to play in!!!!

No probs with your comments at all. I have sent an email to you Ralph as you asked in the other thred posted earlier (the bitchy one).

As for comments about 1-4-1, I think it wasn't a case of 'there weren't enough', they didn't appear to be applied where they should have been (this is only a minor gripe). I have reffed both M25 and SWPL and to be honest if I'm not sure its a 1-4-1 penalty then I don't apply it, as with any rule, if its badly used then it makes the situation worse.

In general, respect to all the Marshalls, Trina and everyone else involed in organising the event. We had a pretty good tournament on the whole, ok, we played sh*t in the morning, got better in the afternoon.

We didn't have a single game where we had a have a go at the marshalls (well not that I remember anyway), I know I nailed one of the marshalls in he head on the RPS field when he peaked over the barricade - he got an apology at the end of the game. The marshalls also get thanked at the end of the game, why? because we appreciate their efforts even if they are not always right.

People have to accept that if a player can make an error which leads to a team losing a game then on occasion a judge may do the same thing. All we can do is play our game that much better the calls won't work against us.

Oh yes, when I'm marshalling "f****in' check 'im, f****in' hell move ref, ****in, f*****in, on his gun, f****in!!!!!" will not make me move any faster to a player.

Respect
