Yeh totally agree the disputes are unavoidable, but its well worth having that extra marshal/ support staff / chronoing armbanding guy to sort stuff out 2 get games flowing smoothly. Lil things can go along way to having snappy turnarounds. Or mayb a lil crocodile to chase up the teams n make sure they get there on time :D

Options....options

Spaklie,

The format you choose for the M25 series depends on what is in demand in that area and a meeting with local teams will make that quickly apparent. Ask the teams that are showing the series support to meet with you to discuss the ins and outs of what you've got planned - everyone at the same time and place so it's an open discussion.

The result is you'll be giving these teams (the ones that are looking to play in the series) what they want. Other teams will join in if you get everything else right.

As Blakey said,

If it's run correctly, marshalled competantly, and represents good value for money... then teams will play.
However, I have a firm belief in the 5-man format becoming the standard for the UK series'. The SWPL has always seen this format as the easiest way to allow new teams to join the paintball scene. Finding five friends to form a team is hard enough - finding seven just so you can start playing is near on impossible. And each series has a responsibility to make joining in its events as easy as possible for teams just starting out.

Established teams will be happy as long as the standard is high and I believe enough people have got plans in the pipeline for seven-man events already. Next year, we'll see an increase of top-quality, well attended seven-mans. These do not need to part of a league in my opinion.

Get the opinion of your teams and allow everyone to discuss the pros and cons in a civilised, open atmosphere. You've gotta go on the results of that in the end. I think you'll come to the right conclusion.

Still think it should aim at being predominantly a 7-man series.

In the long run, if there are few or no 7-man tournaments in the UK then UK teams performance in the Millenium Series will begin to suffer (IMHO).

Coran,

I agree that the UK needs 7-man tournaments. My team want to play nothing but 7-man and we definately need the practice to prepare for the Millenium Series.

However, should a local tournament series provide this or would it be better to have seperate 7-man events on a regular basis. Local leagues have a lot of responsibilities - first and foremost is providing a quality service, but creating an easy pathway for new teams to join the sport is also very important. 7-man is a barrier to this.

If we had a 7-man event every two months in the UK that was high profile, two-days long, gave teams plenty of games and had a great atmosphere, wouldn't that be better than a series of 6 or 8 one day 7-man events that do nothing to help players into our sport?

Another side of the same coin is that we have to create a standard format for all regional series' in the UK if we are ever going to get paintball recognised as a sport. And what about the national finals? Would you like to go from playing 5-man regional to 7-man on a national level or vice versa?

I love 7-man and I agree we need more of it - my point... is its place within a local league?

5-Man or 7-Man

Guys this is just an idea.

Right, there a lot of teams out there that want to play 7-Man.
But like people r saying u want to have new teams coming onto the circuit, & 5-Man is easier for them to play, numbers etc.

You could have 7-Man for Pro, Am & Nov teams, & 5-Man for Rokkie/Entry teams. As i think a 4th cat is needed in the UK, they have one in the states, so why not here. There are enough teams coming onto the scene, & i think it will only increase as the sport grows.

In my opion if there is going to be a National League it should be 7 - Man because the next stepping stone is the Millennium.

I have seen the fall of 10-Man in the U.K which is the best format in my opion, it's just maddness. & the way things r going 7-Man is next.

Right u could go round & round in circle's with this, so there is one way to settle this.

If you want to play 7-Man or 5-Man say so, you don't need to explain why.

Toryboy

Give in to the Dark Side!
yer Tiny, like the 4th cat, better for ghey crap like campaine that puts 80 nobby teams together to fight for 16 places, like the entry peeps have a chance??? i think not, problem with havin the 5 in entry and the 7 in the other divisions is when they come to do the round robin they are aginst 7 pros, lol

needs more thought..present the idea dude

Tiny's idea seems to cover things the best, even though it would make more work for the organiser's. Obviously the 'Rookie' catergory would only play amognst themselves.

I'd rather play a a series of one day 7 man tournys than a series of one day 5 man tournys.

One question - What is the correct spelling of tourny?? :D :D
