As you know I've recently spoken to a number of players regarding tournament teams. As far as entry level goes there are some difficulties in getting 7 players together.

It also seems that at other levels this is becoming the case, I beleive Clive recently had to cancel a 7 man due to lack of interest (sorry if I'm wrong there Clive ).

For those Nov level teams who really want 7 man practice I've always found that Clive runs enough 7 man tourneys, usually near enough to Millenium events, to provide adequate practice.

Hope these thoughts are useful.

Temple has suffered with marshalling (i.e. Clive has had problems getting a full crew together) recently and I think this may have put some teams off attending, hence the occasional low turn-out.

As for any league, Nov, Am and Pro really need to be 7-man. You may get away with running some 5-man stuff but teams will ditch a 5-man Sparklie in favour of a 7-man elsewhere.

Hence the marshalling need.

I agree with Coran on this one. Although we've had some enthusiatic and great marshalling at temple those days are counter balanced by days of 7 mans with 4-5 marshalls. I'm in no way dissing Clive's efforts but there's nothing more off putting than seeing people blatently wipe cus the nearest marshall is 50 yards away checking someone else. Hence my earlier comments re first impressions.

On that note what do people think is a suitable number of marhshalls for a 7 man?

Only 29? I think that to be completely sure of watching a player you need at least 4 marshals per player, plus two dead zone marshals per team plus a head field judge making a total of 59 marshals per field.

It's gonna get really crowded out there! :D

Oh, and all marshals must have both pre-cognative and telepathic powers.

Hey! It's only fair to the players on the field that the marshals and pre-empt abolutely everything thats going to happen during a game....

I reckon 10 would be a good number to have... I know its still quite unrealistic (ok not as unrealistic as 29 or 59) but if you had 10 you could zone the field more easily.

or 8

Damn!!! Edited cos it didn't work...

lol

ok guys but come on the veiws on this thread are very high yet it's only a hand full of people stating their opions. I have spoken to lots of teams and most are all realy up for it.

This leads me to belive either you have no opions, you can't be bothered or you don't care.

I don't belive any of these.

This is a big thing to take on and I want it to work so do my team Iam not alone on this. Diablo have said they will sponsor it and a host of people are also involved at the hands on practicle level we all want to see it work

So please if nothing else show your support and sugestions;)

maybe just the entry level should be 5-man.
I mean, personally i cant see an entry level team playing campaign.
It cant be ignored that smaller, inexperienced teams have a big issue with commitment. and fielding 7 players, can be a struggle.

as to marshalling numbers, no-one mentioned aerial camera style marshals that can judge things from above. either in trees with binoculars, or winched above the gaming field at the start of each game with the use of a huge crane. :)

Ok, one of the problems with teams and leagues and paintball in general, is that a lot of teams are working at sites on the weekend. So in order to train, or play tourneys, a whole team has to pack up and that leaves site owners short staffed. Campaign for Example has three teams that work the site and if all three of those teams were to go to a tourney, that leaves Naill very short on staff.
I'm from Toronto Canada (insert Canadian Joke here) and we've got three indoor sites where teams regularly go to play and practice. Playing at night in lights means that you can zip over after work and play a few games, and be home in time for the late news.
There used to be several teams in Toronto, that played in a week night league, they would show up about 7pm, and play five or six matches, and go home. Usually there were six teams, and if you wern't playing that week, you were expected to ref.
You could run this here if you had a site with flood lights. Here's the format: Each week five teams come to play, and the sixth team marshalls. Every team plays every other team once, and then the top two teams play off in final.
The beauty of it is that you can play paintball one night a week, and still be able to work at you local site on weekends. This way site owners still make money on the weekends, but keep the local tourney scene alive on weekends.
If you've got pro teams playing one evening, you may even be able to draw a small crowd?
It's just a sugestion, i'm sure there's probably a million reasons why this won't work, but hopefully it'll get people thinking.

Personally i'm looking forward to a league, anything that allows me to get out and play some ball can only be a good thing.
