Hmmm, observations from the peanut gallery

Okay, being an uninvolved observer who really doesn't know anyone and has no interest (gain) in any of them succeeding . . .

Isn't all of this just the regular turnover of promoter - player - promoter - player - etc. Ad nauseum?

I know I may be missing things (especially for Europe), but . . .

Lively got the ball rolling, yet players were unhappy, so players form the NPPL.

NPPL player promoters grow longer in the teeth and become business men, players eventually become unhappy, fight creates PSP.

PSP event reviews are mixed at best.

Player(s) (really other business man/men) create S7, players happy at moment.

X-Ball is, well, depends on who you ask (and what side of the Atlantic you are on).

Millennium is formed by players, players now grumbling.

ETC.

So, the evolution is already formed. No one can win (interests are divergent). Those of you with the hands on experience can probably figure out what the actual life span of a league is, but I think it is getting shorter as we go on.

Are we having fun yet?

I'm saying that's evidence that promoters are not operating under this huge profit margin that many seem to accuse them of doing

Sorry mate, but you've just proved yourself wrong by brining up Huntingdon.

NPPL/PP makes $30K loss

They produce:

An event on the beach, absolutley no existing facilities so they have to bring/bulid everything and the clear up has to be spotless
They have tents for every team,
They bought a new air system
They had MASSIVE promotion of the event and Marketting don't come cheap.
They flew in 15 Swedish marshalls and picked up thier tab
They bought new fields

And yet:

They had a (relatively) small trade show
"only" had 90 odd 7 man team

AND THEY ONLY LOST $30K !!!!! That would be covered by another 20 odd teams and then they break even !!!

Please wake up and smell the coffee, if HB could have broken even with only 20 more 7 man teams are you really trying to tell me that the PSP events that have over 100 10man teams and don't have half the facilities, get more trade income and have no promotion aren't making "this huge profit margin"

I'm with Nick - I don't want to see you banned for the sake of it as I am all for constructive and reasoned debate.

Look at the Trigger bounce thread again and see how at first I gave Nick a hard time over some things, disagreed with others but both of us were prepared to listen to valid points the other was making and then (with you and Manikes, and peoples) ideas we all moved someway from our original points of view to get to a wording that we all agree will help clear up confusion, keep the game safe - which ultimately was all out goals. That's what we all are saying about your curent crop of postings about "all S7,Mill players being lazy" and the like which put the back up of all of us here who bl00dy well aren't!!!.

Please enter the debate, but please keep you opinions to the "I believe, what about?, have we thought of this?" kind of thing (like trigger one) and not all these sweeping generalisations and statements that you seem oh so willing to type out which frankly just make you come across as a d1ck and mean any good message you might have is lost.

Basketweaving.

I majored in basketweaving.

Nick: I see your point, except for one big thing: I get exactly the same attitude from everyone else on here, and I think the key difference between myself and many others is others tend to accept that certain people here who have played a lot of paintball are somehow more qualified to have an opinion.

And I think that's a pile of crap. If you think having played paintball for a longer period of time makes you more qualified to have an opinion about starting and running a non-profit organization than someone who has started and run a non-profit organization, I think you're kidding yourself.

So if you want to think "I've been in this sport as a pro player for ages, why should I listen to this pissant?" I counter with "I've been doing membership organizations for ages, why should I listen to these pissants?"

The big difference is I don't get my panties in a bunch when someone else here trots around with a bigger attitude than I think they deserve.

Beaker: PSP lost big money on LA as well. You're also totally ignoring that more teams = more expenses, and NOT in a linear amount. Twice as many teams, 3-4 times as many expenses. You can't say "See, they only lost $30k, if they'd had 20 more teams they would have broke even.." because hosting those other 20 teams isn't free. Well, I suppose you can say it, but you wouldn't be right.

Heh Pete..

It was added intentionally. Ya gotta not take a post that starts with "I majored in basketweaving" too seriously. I reserve the right to play with ya'll if you're going to dedicate a whole thread to bashing me. ;)
