Raehl is wrong, as usual

First let me say that a lot of people from the NCPA are embarrassed and angry by Raehls post about Millenium, PSP and S7 being lazy ass, etc. Second let me say that Raehl does not speak for us or on our behalf.

NCPA events are also not the eutopian examples of the way a league should be run. Take the last MICT for example, it was substandard to most localized tournament series and couldn't even come close to keeping pace with series like the ones Chris took a shot at. They had two fields, and the refing was a nightmare. We had judges that admitted to not knowing the rules, and had never judged tournaments before, or played them.

It seems to be the consensus in the NCPA that Raehl is not respected, he is tolerated because he does most of the leg work and because no one else willing has really stepped up. Not to credit Chris by any means, his capability to handle this league is under serious scrutiny by most of the players within it.

The events are not 'amazing' and in fact to most experienced players within the NCPA, they pretty much suck. A lot of college players have never played major tournament series like the S7 or PSP and therefore really have little basis to compare, further giving Chris the illusion that his events are 'great' because there are some people who don't complain. And Chris does in fact like to sensor what is said on NCPA forums, as well as other people who feel it may inappropriate to criticize too highly NCPA events. Chris has also been known to take the 'shut up and deal with it' approach to the events and the league in general when dealing with issues players raise.

In fact I submit that the NCPA at times seems to be more of a communism than any 'model' league from which the Millenium, PSP, and S7 should all learn from.

It is apparent to most NCPA players that logic and common sense evade Chris and the players tend to suffer. The fact is that the players do, do most of the work related to these events, and in most cases have never organized one, let alone played in many, the result, events that are sub-par to major series.

Unfortunately most people share the opinion in the NCPA that we will not go far with Raehl at the head vomitting his illogical and illusioned opinions at well respected and established series like the Millenium, PSP, or S7.

Members would probably come forward with plenty of examples of the league's imperfections at the hands of Raehl, but there is some fear of a backlash from Raehl. The result could mean unfair judging at the next event, predjudice toward that player or school, or even out right banning of that team.

One thing is for certain, I am embarrased by Raehl's comments and I know I speak for all of my teammates.

Heh.

First, when I say lazy-ass *******, I did *NOT* mean it as an insult, but a description of the way I (and most others) approach PSP/ S7 /Millenium - we want to pay, show up, play, and leave, and maybe bitch on the web boards when we get home. I.e., we're customers, and it's silly to expect promoters to cater to our individual whims or even collective wants when we can't even get ourselves together to express what those wants are in an organized manner.

Not that it matters to me much, I'm content as far as PSP/S7 goes to pay my "lazy-ass *******" fee and show up. A lot of the people here are acting like they *DO* want to be more involved; I'm just trying to taunt you guys into DOING something about it.

On the NCPA front, I'll be the first to admit that NCPA is nowhere near PSP/ NPPL *OR* Millenium in terms of the kinds of events run. At HB, S7 *LOST* 2-3 times our ENTIRE budget for Nationals. All three have more teams, and a lot more resources. It should be a no-brainer that there's a lot of good stuff that happens at those events as a result. I'm not saying the leagues are bad, they do a LOT of things quite well. I *AM* saying that the leagues are organized as BUSINESSES, not player organizations, and THAT's the difference I'm trying to highlight between the NCPA and PSP/S7/Millenium.

As for the recent MICT, was it perfect? No. Plenty of room for improvement? Absolutely. Was it run by players and offered to players at $15/head + $65/case? In support of a paintball location on campus property? Yeah. So there were a couple refs there who may not have been up to snuff. That's never happened at a S7 or PSP or Millenium event, right?

But Paul has even less basis for saying he speaks for the NCPA than I do. Nationals is the one event per year that I directly run. It's in ust over aweek, talk to me after then.

Not too long I hope, Pete? ;)

Sheeesh guys, relax...

You're talking about a players organization, I'm offering up an example of a real one. Here, without using hte forbidden 4 letters, I'll do the short outline as to how we'd do this in the US (european millage may vary)

1) Find a couple people who are seriously interested and know how to write.
2) Optionally, grab a lawyer.
3) Write down the goals of the organization.
4) Draft an organizational instrument incorporating those goals and picking the legal structure ofthe organization (we're a non-stock corporation in Wisconsin)
5) Draft Bylaws, or whatever the European equivalent for "rules of how the organization is run" are.
6) Have elections. If you want, I can even set up a way for you to do elections online (which is where we do all of ours.)

Go.

If you want to go to the site of the organization we're not supposed to talk about ;) our articles of incorporation and bylaws are there.

Sorry nick, missed that one...

My main interface with PSP/S7 is as "team owner" - been putting a team in every event since Chicago Open last year (where I was on the roster, havn't been since - all the organizational crap hadn't been leaving a lot of practice time for being useful on the field.)

On the other hand, how many times have you guys had to write the checks to the refs at the end of the day or negotiate renting a location? I have a different set of experience that incorporates the promoter side of the fence more - up to you to figure out whether that's valid or not I guess.

I know quite a few. I'm definitely, however, privy to the players who play one or two events per year, and there's quite a chunk of them too.

Clap, Clap

Clap, clap, clap...

I feel I must congratulate some of you on being so easy to accuse, and so impossible to provide answers. I kinda like it, backs up Raehls claim that people in the S7 and PSP are lazy....don't you think?

I would like to know how many of you who have the time to critisis Chris for his tournaments have ever set up one? And I'm not talking some dinky little thing, I'm talking like a league...Yeah, I thought not.

A wise man once told me "Never critisis someone when you yourself can't do better"...oh wait, that was Bob Long!

Is the NCPA perfect? No, but as of right now it is a force to be dealt with...or have you not read any paintball magazines in the past few months? You tink the PSP and NPPL simply started big? HA, I saw it from the begining, as I'm sure many of you have...it was a joke to some at one point.

PS: Let me also comment that I have no clue where you get this idea that Chris is not respected? How many of you are on NCPA teams? Yeah, well those of us who are...we respect Chris for his work and organization....those few like Paul (wretched7) really have no clue what they are talking about...
So how about this...when you come up with a league, set it up, build the website, maintain it, organize events, create a company off it, create leaders, do the advertising, and try to advance it all by yourself without any compensation other then people bashing you on a forum....then you can come talk and I'll listen...till then stick to what you know...playing ball, and leave the detail work to someone who has the guts to do it.
