The right to complain....

Tyger--of course you might argue they didn't have to go if they didn't like it but then most of them had no idea what it was going to be like until the last minute and took on faith that a decent event would be put on. (And only a non-competitor would make that argument to begin with--)
Ok, if I knew that I'm going to, say, Florida. But I don't like mosquitoes, do I have the right to complain that the fields suck because there's mosquitos on the fields?

Come on. If I know I'm going to a desert, I'm not going to have the audacity to expect green grassy fields. Am I the only guy to do recon on fields I'm planning on playing at? SHEESH! Next thing we'll start complaining about is that the pitch is a Bermudagrass and NOT a fine fescue or Kentucky bluegrass!

VW's are the game
Man after veiwing that pic of the field in Vegas lets me know how Fortunate we are in the UK to play on grass. Yes it may be a little soggy but hell atleast you can slide without tearing your pants and knees and well what ever comes in contact with the ground when you slide! I for one don't miss the fact that most fields on the West cost lower 40 are desert like. I hope NO one was seriously hurt!

So what you're saying is that top players aren't accountbale for their own actions, that these same players shouldn't have to play in refrence to their surroundings, and they can blame the tournament promoters for the fact that they played in a desert?

Good lord Pete, you ARE an American!

all of you do have good points but when a team gets to that certain venue to walk the fields , not only should that team figure out how they are going to play. but also check out all the hazards and report them to the promoter before play begins. hopefully the promoter would address those hazards and make it so no one is hurt during that tourny. its called "CYOA" cover-your-own-ass. but then again if poeple enjoy not being responsable and like to hear players bitch and moan about why they didn't do well that day, by all means have at it!!!!

BUT THEN AGAIN I DID DISLOCATE MY SHOULDER DOING A "PETE ROSE" SLIDE INTO THE CENTER 50 LAST WEEKEND. THAT WAS DONE ON MY OWN ACCOUNT. I DON'T THINK I COULD EVER SUE THE PROMOTER FOR SOMETHING I DID TO MYSELF. (BY THE WAY I DID FINISH THE GAME, HANDING OUT WELTS WITH MY ARM HANGING OUT OF PLACE) THATS WHY I HAVE A GREAT INSURANCE PLAN.

yea i remember that if you are refering to the 10 man portion of the WPF last week...first game you played that day wasn't it?

that was a good field out there with the grass and all....had a bit of a walk to get from staging to the fields though...that kinda sucked but i know why they did it (to make the players walk by the vendor trailers ;) )

the arm getting better there?

Ok, even though Pete keeps telling me this isn't my 'battle' (I was fighting? There was a battle?) Nobody has really answered a question that I'm dying to find out.

IF it's true that players broke bones, recieved cuts and bruises, allegedly taping up players with bruised ribs, damaged equipment on the rocks of the field, and IF it's true that the players were collapsing from heat exhaustion from a lack of water on site (save for the reported $3 bottles for sale), and IF it's true that the temperatures were too hot to play...

Then why didn't the event get called to dangerous conditions? Why didn't the players, as a whole, boycott the event and demand a refund for entry, hotel, airare, lost time at work, and so on? If the event was advertized as one thing and delivered another, why did the players tolerate it? Somoene could have recieved a career ending injury, and nobody said anything to the event promoters? No teams made a stand?

For example, snowboarding. If the moutnain conditions are unsafe to ride, you don't ride. Event organisers will call off an event if, say, there's a chance for an avalanche. And if they don't, the athletes will step in and say "No, we aren't going to kill ourselves here." So, if the conditions were unsafe in Vegas, WHY did the tournament continue?

This is not a flame, it's a VERY serious question.

Because they

spent their money, took time off work and KNEW that even if they boycotted, they would never get that cash back. So they figured 'we're here, money's spent, let's do this.'

Why? Cos as I said elsewhere, there is no recourse...where do they go, apart from the lawcourts...which takes time and a lot of money.

Plus would you get solidarity? 10 Am A teams agree to boycott, the rest say 'hey, increases my chances of making the finals, I'm staying...'

Now if there was a strong player body, let's call it, oooh, the NPPL, for argument's sake - a meeting or vote could be called and if the majority said 'don't play', the NPPL can get all teams to walk and then take action against the promoter.

Which is why we need the NPPL.

You know I'm right.
