Let me be the first to say that i DO judge by the standard of a team's kit, not because it inherentl means they are bad, it tends to give you some clues about what they are like.

If a team is dressed up in camo and weilding inferno's, spyders, ancient mags etc. it tells you that they are likely to not be very experienced in the world of tourney paintball. When i played my first tourney we had a real mixed lot equipment wise, but it was mostly spyders, inferno's and the like, and we got completely outgunned & therefore were at a great disadvantage. In a couple of tourneys most had upgraded their kit to a much better standard, and anyone who has been playing tourneys for even a short while will get the it they need to succeed.

This is a problem in the UK tourney scene in that we really have no tournaments in which you can get away with using low end kit, just look at the Div. F teams in the MM's last year, 90%+ of people were using angels, impulses, e-blades and the like. Even playing rec-ball you tend to get hammered if your using sub par kit, it took me one walkon to realise that an inferno was just not enough to play with.

The second reason you can judge them is that you know that they aren't gonna be able to put as much paint in the air as you when your playing. In sup-air, it is a real disadvantage to be outgunned, and it gives your oponents an edge.

Just to qualify what i'm saying, i don't automatically see a team using low level kit and start laughing & pointing and ywlling 'noobs!!' and assuming they are awefull players, because only cocks do that, i just think that you can tell things about a team by what they use.

Class divide?

I don't want to create a class divide in paintball, I wish it was cheaper myself. That way I could get a bar job and play every day :D

But seriously, there is a glut of good, cheap, secondhand equipment out there. A mate of mine let his second gun, an impy, go for £100. That was with barrels, hopper and kit. He couldn't give it away. There is so much good tourney level equipment ready to be snapped up, that you have to wonder why guys would show up with inferno's, tippmans, ratty old mags, 10 year old cockers etc. It is not necessarily a finance thing, but maybe those guys are not totally into their game, playing for a giggle, larking about one sunday a month. To me it does demonstrate a slight lack of commitment. If I was a golfer, i wouldn't rush out and buy a motorised golf cart, but then I wouldn't turn up at the course with three rusty clubs in a plastic bin bag either. Am I making sense?

And more importantly...

Anyone who plays this game, whether its walk on, scenario or tournie, is a player to me. Regardless of what gun they shoot or what kit they wear.

However, anyone who uses the term "Allow it" should be beaten to death with their own severed limbs. In public.

Sorry Km16. Nothing personal.

Talking of Judging Books by the covers, hey Milk tooth, lets not judge you by your "Pimp Daddy" modelling pictures. I'm sure the mince was purely for show. :)
