Joint Statement from the Paintball Association and the UK Masters.

it would of been nice if we were asked what we thought first.

Seb
Can I ask why Seb? If people are given a choice you would always have the selection of people saying " we shouldn't, they shouldn't, I don't want to, yadda yadda"

This way it's mandatory - Even if you are the queen of sheba, if you want to play Paintball in the UK, get membership from the UKPSF before you can. Protection for you and others is always going to be there then with no doubts.

Makes policing easier too.

The PA will not be offering any discounts for players who join the insurance scheme.
I have not spoken to Wendy about this point but I doubt the Masters will also.

Players and Refs who join this scheme will provide no benefit to the Organisers only themselves and each other.

What we will do is allow you to play at our events.

Seriously we have not decided to do this lightly, we collectively believe this is something that is long overdue and adds a tiny bit of professionalism to the sport.

And if you play six events a year it's an extra couple of quid a time.

The NSPL will be following suit, but I think there are some additional issues here that need to be discussed including player registration and aligning this scheme with the EPBF registration system (i.e. Millennium Cards) so players can have one card for everything if they choose, or just a UK insurance and tournament registration card.

If this amount of effort is going to put in, I believe we need to get it right. Let's go the whole hog and have a database of registered tournament and recreational players at the same time.

I have discussed the UKPSF scheme with Bully in the past and feel that it is a great vehicle to get things moving and ensure players are protected.

Almost every organised team sport has personal insurance built in, whether you are aware of it or not. Most are paid through central registration eg Football, some by the club, and in our case by the individual.
For those that don't know Paintball as we know whould probably not exist if it was not for the UKPSF.

Russ,
Ref:- Toy maybe so but they are not having it. The gear is insured home and away, but they say whilst taking part in a tournament no liabilty or personal injury protection

I certainly believe it is in our best interest as "own gunners" to voluntarily sign up to a registration scheme and that all tournament organisers insist and enforce that all participants in their events are registered and have adequate cover
If you use your gun 10 days this year shoot 100 less paintballs each day

Great to have your support Syd I knew you would do it.
I don't think we should think of joining it with the Millennium EPBF scheme as that is just a way for them to get them extra cash they said they want use to pay their refs and that wound never get my support, ever.
At the inaugural meeting meeting a few years ago they suggested a fee of 30 euros per player with 10 euros staying with the home country governing body (the UK does not have a governing body for the sport - the UKPSF is a trade body and as such can not meet the criteria required) and 20 euros would go to the EPBF.
If players played the Millennium Series or associated events (PSP ect) they would not be paying much more but when you consider all other players who do not want to play that level the purse would have been bulging.

I understand all of that Russ as I was there as well and had similar reservations. But its an idea worth discussing again at least and maybe something could happen in the future. For the time being, this initiative is a great start and has my full support.

Basically we should a UK registration scheme, which all recreational players must join
This must be affiliated to but not part of a European Registration Initiative
Membership of the UK scheme could then give you discounted membership of the ERI if you wished to play any European Event.
We do need the retailers to get on board as well.

But they don't cover the NSPL format?
They only seem to cover :

Walk On events at Yorkshire Paintball
Tournaments at Universal Paintball
Walk On events at Campaign Paintball
Walk On events at Skirmish Norfolk
Walk On events at Skirmish High Wycombe
Walk on events at Combat Paintball (Norfolk)
Walk On events at Powerplay Paintball
Walk On events at Frontline Paintball
PA Cup events
Walk On events at Dragons Lair
Armageddon Events

or am I mis-understanding?
Would players not prefer to pay a slightly higher premium and be covered for ALL paintball activities, as it stands it seems to me like buying car insurance and only being covered on 12 different approved roads in the country.

And then of course maybe a policy could be arranged so it also covers theft of equipment.
