I agree that that kid is just taking the piss really - I still think however, the whole Joe Schmoe thing is a cool idea, but does it really have to be THAT schmoey?? There are sooo many interesting and wacky rec-ballers out there, can it be that hard to find ONE every month?? I mean really - most of these guys/gals (haven't seen any gals in a while??) are American! And the Brits don't take the piss out of the crazy, wacky - often ludicrously insane yanks for no reason you know!
Sure, the article is called 'Joe Schmoe' to imply that the person is just a regular 'Joe Bloggs' or whatever, but goodness sake - I'm guessing that the majority of the people who read the mag aren't interested in a 12 yr old kid who shot his scout master on a 'Cubs' outing (no offense Greg).
Anyway - not trying to bloody annoying or anything, it's a great idea of a feature in the mag - just jazz it it up with some colourful characters!!
Also, what TL mentioned about 'a tech page with Information on how to do the things that new players that have come to our sport don't know.'
I think that's a pretty cool idea too - not to replace JS or anything though. I reckon it would be kind of cool if it wasn't limitted to stuff 'new players' don't know, but some pretty indepth techy stuff too with explanations and diagrams of how things work etc. I enjoy understanding how some of these top markers work - and many of them are so varied in their mechanisms too. I don't know what other people think about that???
One other thing, while I'm here - I believe it was mentioned in a letter once. It was too include diagramatic drawings of the fields instead of explaining the layout. Often after coverage of a tournament I try to find pics of the fields and their layouts to see what they were like - the most I often get are distant chopped up pieces of fields occasionally. If you think about sports like American football and regular football (soccer), you'll often see player line ups, starting positions etc. - coaches have tactical plays written on boards and sheets. I remember Robbo once writing about how the RL were one of the first teams to really start trying to incorporate pre-set plays and moves on the field, which is extremely difficult in paintball due the the nature of the game. But the naughts and crosses things with lines showing cover fire, bunkering moves etc. Just a thought - definitely the field layouts though, that would be cool.
Cheers, Alex
