Unfortunately....the main dynamic for XBall (other than itself) is the NXL...and in my opinion, the signs are, there will be no NXL next year.
It could of course be argued that 'XBall should live on' but I'm afraid it only lives if leagues adopt it and if the major leagues do not adopt it, then it will wither away into indifference.
With the NXL / PSP guys posturing toward the NPPL, and the NPPL guys displaying more than a passing interest, then it seems there may be a less bumpy ride ahead on the road to full integration.
The ESPN show has been hugely successful and seems to have cemented in the minds of the NPPL guys that the 7 man format is the way to go but.....it's not so much the 7 man format that makes this work but the significant editing that is done to make this format attractive.
XBall is more exciting, there is no doubt but the very thing that makes it exciting also provides its Achilles heel..basiclaly, it's repetitive and therein lies its downfall, leastwise as far as the NPPL guys go.
The 7 man format, edited down to video-bites seems to provide the best of both worlds, exciting climactic finales coupled with a degree of complexity Xball can't provide .....well that's the theory anyway.
And thus, XBall dies if this integration goes ahead, and if all goes to plan, the Millennium series falls into line.
Hmmmmm.......
