As we all know nearly all paintball markers out there are expensive to buy new. After the release of the smart parts Ion for around £200 new will companies follow or stick to the high prices. Point of this thread is, why do they cost so much and why do we spend so much. With tournaments capping guns to 15bps and you being able to spend £200 on a new gun which can fire faster than that,is small and light. Why are we spending £1000 on a new gun which can do the same thing. Ok I know there are differences, but with guns being capped why spend so much on gunz when in the real terms, they all do the same thing.

Spend £200 on a gun that fires 17bps max, has ramp and is small and light

or

Spend £1000 on a gun which can fire much faster, but cant be used in almost all tournaments and is also small and light.

Are we just paying for the name?

I don't think it's so much the name your paying for, more the quality. You could also say why settle with a Fiesta when you can have a Porche? I agree it's a bit stupid to be paying so much more for something of equal performance, but that's the way it is. And, as long as the consumer keeps spending the rrp, it aint gonna change. People always want the latest and best thing to come out. And if you've got the dough then why settle for anything less?

At one time i had a shocker and an ion, yes, i could by two or three ions for the price of the shocker, but they just arent as nice. Then when you take into account the finiching and style ot the other guns, Dm4/5/6/C or the egos, or new angels, then you realise why you dont want an ion!

Quality. Same reason why you can buy any mass-produced item for less money at the expense of quality. Same reason why you pay less for a Kia than a Lambourghini. Why would you buy the Lambourghini when the speed limit is 55 MPH?
