Was reading the other thread about bonus balling, and one guy mentioned cheating in Xball.

Is it ok to cheat in Xball? wipe, play on, bonus ball, etc.....

The penalties are in place, and are used when rules are broken. Does this mean that professional fouls are now ok? In soccer players foul, dive and cheat. If they get away with it then nobody bats an eyelid, but if a player in paintball plays on, he is openly hung drawn and quartered.

With the inception of Xball, and the penalty system, is it now ok to cheat? Somethimes the reward will be worth the risk of being binned for 2 minutes, i.e last 30 seconds of the game, you play on to mug a guy out, if it works you win the game. Would you play on and risk a meaningless 2 minute penalty?

I think inorder for this to work the penalties have to be higher.

If you get a 2 min pen 30 seconds before its game over then that pen has to carry on to the next game you play.

suspension systems, like if a player is caught playing on say 3 times in a series he gets a one match ban.

stuff like that.

Cheating isn't going to go away cause ego's are too high, specially at X-ball level.

that said, games would be better if players didn't cheat.

Maybe a camera system could be introduced looking at the players from the 4 corner angles. If a move looks suspect it could be reviewed (digital) and then a penalty introduced if blatent cheating has occured. Also such moves could be shown during breaks in a sort of name and shame system. Bashing the egos of players who cheat into the ground can only reduce the numbers.

Cheating has always been ok in paintball.

Someone wipes, what happens? Some players from their team get pulled, they finish the game, and everything is peachy in time for their next match.

Suck it up.
Cheating has never been ok in paintball - but marshals and tournament organisers rarely have the motivation to hand out punishments that might dissuade people from doing it.

The fact that a lot of people consider cheating the norm doesn't make it right.

I think I'll pass on the 'sucking up' and leave it lying at the bottom of the barrel with all the rest of the scum ta.

Golden age of honesty? Old school traditions? Trust me, we are better off today than when we were in the woods, concealed by nature, comfortably wiping hits, while your opponent's friend's team "refs" the game. Now that is 'Old School.'

cheating is part of the game in X-ball
there's an article about it in PGI this month.

Just like Holding in American Football, diving in the box in Soccer.

Playing on in X-ball (say finishing a run thru with hits on you) is the equivilant of tripping up the opposition player when he's on a clear break away in Hockey, one on one with the goal keeper, and you have to stop him from scoring. YOu trip him up with your stick, stop him from scoring, but you spend 3 minutes in the penalty box, so the oppositon get a power play, and a chance to score even more goals.
Each player has to make a decision, to chance the rules. If you take an extra guy out and win the game, you jeprodise your chances in the next game... it's a new element of stategy in the game.

Bonus balling is also part of the game, it makes it harder for the oppositon to turn things around when you've coated them in paint... but too much and you'll end up in the penalty box (has anyone actually ever seen anyone penalised for this?)

Playing on is a relativly minor penalty in X-ball, whiping and fighting are bigger penalties, and thowing your gun is a major!

Teams have lost matches due to penalties, but teams that get away with it, and don't go overboard and don't get caught often have an advantage. It's a balancing act.

And it's a moral choice - some footballers won't cynically bring someone down, or take a dive...just cos you might get away with something doesn't mean you should attempt it.

Of course that's true Duff,
it's a moral factor, it's winning at any cost. Some footballers won't do it, but a lot will. Most players at the top of the game see cheating (and getting away with it) as part of the game. Ron Killbourne from Bushwackers is a prime example of a player who prides himself in playing the rule book...

But by making the penalty box, and the rules on cheating part of the structure of the game, X-ball has made it part of the game.

It will happen, rumor has it that some team are even practicing using the penalty box...

Man I watched an X-ball game where the 'sinned' player ripped the field in two when he was released, he just shot down the middle of the field and mugged the lot of them. I'd say the 2 minute penalty worked in his favour.

It was at campaign - possibly the USA Vs. Sweden match?
