The "banned" stuff is in fact ordinary absinth. France (and many other countries) banned the original czech incarnation of absinth and came up with replacements and substitutions, the main one in France being Pernod. To retaliate, La Fee (a major absinth producer) released a lower alcohol version of absinth under the same name in order to get around the prohibition in place.

If you want something hardcore, drink petrol. If you want absinth, the biggest b*stard is Hapburg Yellow Label: 89.9%. But if you drink that, you'll probably be puttingBalkan 176 on your cornflakes.
