Shot Putt, Javelin, Horse Riding, Judo, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Discus, Hammer, Air Pistol, Air Rifle, Trap Shooting, Fencing, etc...

Pretty sure some of the rowing was training for the ancient
greeks for with their warships.

And... the Marathon was derived from the story of the greek messenger that ran all the way from one city to another to ask for help in a war.

Like I said most games derived from war.

think you'll find the olympics was created to push the physical limitations of humans to the limits its a competition to see who's the best in whatever they do, marathon was actualy the messengers name by the way but i dont remember reading in all those history lessons about people throwing discus's at each other and did any of the caesars have air pistols or rifles to cap each other up oh no my brother swords and arrows was the order of the day ;)

I didn't say that - the ancient greeks found the best sports to test skills were ones based off war like archery etc. therefore it follows that the newest game based from combat but now nothing to do with war in the slightest follows the same style as things like the javelin :)

greetings from Athens,

I've been in many games since now, and I regret paintball isn't there , It can fit properly inside the competition,

especially xball maybe some minor adjustments should be made to become even more spectator friendly for everybody to understand.

If dancing with your horse is considered a sport for the olympics I can't see why paintball can't make it...

In all seriousness - who would be the best organisation to approach to start a bid for it? UKPSF + PBUK?
I really think that we should have a look at it - who knows next olympics or the one after we may see Brits winning a gold for once

Is it just me then that prefer paintball to be in the Xgames rather than the olympics???

We are an extreme sport and therefore should be in the extremes games, not alongside horse dressage and synchronised drowning with style.

Plus and it's a big plus for certain baller's. no drug tests!!!

Actually the runner was named Phidippides. Marathon was the name of the area where the Battle was taking place between Athenian Hoplites (Heavy Infantry) and an invading Persian Army.

The shooting sports were pretty much all derived from military training. The Biathalon for example was originally based on the skill sets of Nordic Ski Infantry,

There are plenty of other examples. The modern Pentathalon is based on the skills used by military dispatch riders (Shooting, Fencing, Swimming, Horsemanship, running).

Actually the marathon refers to the battle of Thermopoli, when Phidippides ran from Marathon to Athens (26 miles) to not only carry news of the Athenian victory, but news of the Persian fleet sailing to Athens. When King Darius arrived and saw the Athenians assembled on the beaches he turned and fled. Funnily enough, after delivering the news, Phidippides dropped dead.....
Also, each country that hosts the Olympics can choose one sport to use as an Exhibition sport. It is then voted on as to whether or not to make it an offficial Olympic game. Hence all the craptastic goofiness that is now paraded as serious athletic competition. I think paintball has a very good chance to make it into the Olympics. All it takes is a motivated individual to pitch it to their countries Olympic committee.
