If the paintball was in the olympics, and I wanted to play for my country - then of course I would have a drug test!

Whether I'd pass is a completely different question.

Drugs which don't enhance performance is ketamin - I've played whilst high as a kite on the stuff. It took me about 50 shots to hit someone 5 meters away, and the pain of being shot was muted and very, very amusing!!

:D

Loosers don't do drugs.

Just in case anyone wasn't fully aware of the implications, consider what happened to Alain Baxter, the Scottish skiier who was stripped of his bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in 2002, and banned from subsequent events, when he tested positive for methamphetamine.

The source of this was a Vicks inhaler, purchased in the US, which contains Levmethamphetamine, whereas the version sold in the UK does not contain it. Despite the fact that as an l-methamphetamine it does not have the same performance-enhancing effect as d-methamphetamines, and an isomer separation test (not covered in the IOC rules) on the failed sample would have revealed the difference, the IOC upheld the disqualification.

Still feel comfortable with drugs testing?

Yes, the rules are there with a list of all banned substances. There is little room for error and you HAVE to be aware of what you are putting into your system. He should have been aware that medications vary within brand names in different countries.

Back when I was being drug tested, in Australia I could take Lemsip when I had a cold (in Aus, it only contains paracetamol). When I moved to the UK, I had to get the Lemsip shipped from my parents as all the cold medicines in this country contain banned substances.

To say that I feel sorry for the guy doesn't change the fact that the rules were there (whether or not they were 100% correct, they were the same for everyone and that makes it fair in my eyes). He broke the rules and the specified penalty was applied.

What is really annoying is when people break the rules and penalties aren't applied (or the wrong penalty is applied).

Cam, you are right -- rules is rules. But it'd be a serious shock to the system for todays paintball "athletes". Professional sports teams, along with the coaches and physios and nutritionalists and so on, pretty much pay someone full time to read the labels on every single thing they eat, drink or apply to their bodies.

I can only think of one team in existance today which would be able to cope in the real world of professional sport.
