Idea for I.D. card/player registration system

O.K. folks, after seeing all the griping that is going on in regards to sandbagging/I.D. cards etc., I thought I would float the following idea with everyone here - feel free to shoot it down/give suggestions.

The idea I have is as follows....
1) The I.D. card system is taken over by the EPA (when we are up and running)

2) The I.D. cards can be used for whatever the promoters wish - but they will be used by the EPA to track players, both their behaviour and their experience.

3) The cards would be valid for 365 days of membership payment.

4) Behaviour - if a player screws up and gets himself banned from an event/series then the ban will apply to all related series. Example - Joe Blow throws his gun at a Millennium event, this gets him a 1 month ban from the Nordic Series as well.

5) Experience - Players will get "experience points" based on what they play and how well they do. These points will be calculated using events over the past 2 years.

How does all this get put together? Well, the whole idea would be that, when a team registers for a sanctioned event - the registration will be done online and online ONLY.

A team may be composed of ANY players regardless of ranking - so yes technically, current Pros could play novice. BUT where all the "magic" happens is that a team must have under a certain amount of points to qualify for that division.

EXAMPLE: Team Turds - wish to enter a MS event as Novice. To enter as Novice they must have a team rating of under 700 points. Their 7 players have combined experience points that add up to 650, so they are o.k. - but if they where to add a player who would push them over the limit - say a pro - then they would be forced to play the next level up.

This is just a quick example of an idea - what do you think??

Searching for the pro-tour....:S
fantastic, go for it! If all the promoters get behind this, then this could go a long way to making paintball into a more professional sport! :)

Would be nice to have a true european seed too, someone from outside the sport asks how good you are...." We're ok, seeded 56th novice team out of X in europe."

I think the basic idea seems great, as long as the series involved actually check the IDs consistently.

Having said that, I have no idea what impact that would have on the incomes generated and needed for the different leagues. That income would have to be made up somehow, perhaps a share of entry fees.

I like the idea of EPA getting some income stream, however little, so that they can proceed with their much-needed work.

I really like the team point thingy, just wonder how that would apply to a total roster which usually is more than 7 for 7-player. Keep in mind that some players are rostered on certain teams where they don't really play much.

I also really like the cross-league discipline possiblities.

How do you size up the IPPA player tracking system, or whatever the system the PSP uses?

The EPA ID Card System sounds really interesting, but there seem to be some small issues to be solved.

1. In the Millennium Series teams can have up to 10 players on their roster. If they decide to play with more experienced players they could just reduce their number of players down to seven players. On the other hand teams with less experienced players and 10 players on their roster could slip up one division. A balance has to be found.

2. You calculate the Experience Points (E.P.) by the results from the past two years. How about Amateur B Teams who suceed good but not outstanding in the last season. Now due to different circumstances, like other "better" teams stepping up to Amateur A, they're an outstanding team in the actual season.

For example: They won Millennium Event 1 & 2 and increased their E.P.s, now they want to start in the third Millennium Series Event but their alltogether E.P. are higher then allowed and due limit they need to step up to Amateur A.

Hope you're able to understand me... =)

I don't see why it would have to be season based....
At the end of every season there would be a 'review moment', and that's where the tallies are made, and we find out who needs to move up and such. So no forcing people up midseason.
And I like the idea of only counting the top players. Indeed some teams have a roster of 7, others have 10. So theoretically you could get stuffed over if you have 10 players who are really crap...;)

And like Paul and Goose have already established, I see the biggest obstacle in the form of the local leagues. The last thing many of those are waiting for, is another bunch of mouthy people... But if they have any longterm vision, they'd see the importance.

When this kicks off, we might need to have ID cards with bar codes, and a few guys with handheld scanners at the entry points of the player's areas. That way you have instant access to all the info, plus it might improve security a little as well.
Sure, it'll be an investment, but all it'd require is one or two laptops with a copy of the file(s), and a few scanners. Hardly a biggy when spread out over an entire league.
