We were sat in a bar near the comfort in, and these two french dudes came up and asked us if we were english or american. Obviously they heard us talking and since my team mates are british they said that they were brits, and the two dudes just stared at us for a bit.

Then i realised they were staring at me 'cause i sound 'american' to them.
At that point i stopped them and told them i wasn't american, that i was canadian, and they seemed a bit better about that, although they probably didn't believe me, or maybe didn't understand the difference.

The whole thing was a bit unnerving.
Or maybe it was because Brits routinely go at the French hammer and tongs and they're tired of it. (After all, these two were too stupid to know the difference between America and Canada, right?) Or maybe it's because the French really are a bunch of supercilious twits. Or maybe it's because Canadians think they sound like Americans to guys who appear to be French. Could this be getting any sillier?

Going back a few posts, the remark made by a guy on Team USA about Russia deserving the terrorist attack was in response to me informing them about the attack. (I had just very stupidly tried to remove one of the Russian's armband thinking it was left over from one of the 7-player games.) I have mixed feelings about my non-reaction. I was obviously very busy with running the X Ball game at hand but I hated to leave such insensitivity, hypocrisy, and immaturity unanswered. I hoped that no one on Team Russia heard it but obviously an American helping the team did.

Did anyone see the scene during Germany vs USA where I had to get an American (spectator in the pit area, not player) bounced for loudly and rudely getting in my face? I was told by some of my co-workers to drop it but I detest any attempts at intimidation and overt rudeness.

(NO I won't say who the person was.)

Another funny thing along these lines: a ref of a team who judged one of the games that USA played turned to me and said: "This is Euros against Americans. F___the Americans!" I think he thought I was a Swede who speaks really good English!

To the point that Chris Jansen made: we ex-pat Americans have to put up with a lot of bashing and quite a bit of it is well-founded. But as others have indicated, being a flying A-hole has no national boundaries and neither does being a decent, stand-up human being.

Roland,
If you or anyone else wants to start a political discussion--do so over in SYB. (And we'll see if The Great Pie Eater allows it)

Rhetorical Question: I take it you're also very concerned about Britain's reputation due to the actions of Tony Blair, too? ;) :p
Sorry thought my comments were relevant to the discussion.

Yes I am concerned about the damage Tony Blair has done to the Brits reputation abroad (whatever that may be).

There is a difference though, the vast majority of Brits did nor support Tony Blair while the majority of Americans did support President Bush.

I do travel abroard regularly and from my discussions most people seem to realise that.

I will say no more in case I get banned!;)

1--perhaps you could also, when you have the time, look up the meaning of rhetorical.
And how could it possibly be relevant to the discussion when the thread was started by Joern apologizing for blaming Americans for the conduct of, apparently, a Brit?
2--I only brought it up since, as you were so concerned for America's rep, and Mr. Blair did the same things as Mr. Bush--I thought I would reciprocate your concern.
Yes, well, as long as you didn't support him your hands are clean, aren't they?
3--Brits are right thinking or should I say, correct thinking people even if their politicians are *******s.
4--never banned anybody in my life and I promise not to start with you. ;)

i apologize

To Team U.S.A AND team Germany And All Fellow Ballers

First of all i would like to apologize to the above.
when Joern came up to me and asked for paint, for 1 thing the paint wasn't mine to give away it was team USA's. The reason i was unpleasant towards him was that his team that judged the Angel field would not explain to me the reason why they had taken one of my players cards away for an incedent on the field. One of the judges would not speak to me in English, then when the ultimate judge (Joern) turned up the judge suddenly spoke in English!!! so that is why I was a bit off towards him. But in no way did I swear, I just said "no you cant have the paint". When Paul from team USA the captain came off the field I told him what had happened and we then gave them two boxes of paint.

So once again apologies to Team USA, Team Germany and to Joern also to the organisers of X-ball.

I was totally in the wrong so what more can I say.

Also I apologise to Team Ecstacy and Smart Parts.

Yeah Steve, we definitely heard it, and nobody was very happy about it either. But not wanting to distract them from their game, we waited to pass along their "condolences" until after they finished the game.

I personally think that the Russian Legion are probably the most professional team in the sport. they did not rise to the crap they were subjected to in their game vs Effect, and they never complain about any decisions made against them. they are true professionals and something everyone should aspire to become.

And that guy Mishka from the Legion....man can he play! Superatar status here he comes!
