I agree, Kitty.
The tea in American diners and restaurants is disappointing, which is a pity as the rest of the menu is usually outstanding.
I, like you, have been offered iced tea, or "Liptons" teabags with hot water, which are not very good.
The solution?
When I travel abroad, I have one pot full of teabags, and another pot full of sugar cubes.
Then, I am always ready to serve tea in the correct fashion on the field.
