the post I made is from an old friend who is an ex-fire arms officer, he now runs a business doing section 5 work and is convinced his business has a lifespan of 5 years before the company will have to close.

Well the bill hant gone through yet, if you write to your MP and ask them just not to vote for the bill, and then explain why, then that might have an effect.

If the bill goes through we will be in trouble a bit

If the bill doesnt go through they might modify it and try again

If you live in a conservative/Lib Dem area in particular try and talk to them with the slant of 'its ANOTHER Labour kneejerk reaction, it doesnt target REAL crime', that sort of stuff: if you angle it right they will vote against it, or at least just voice their/your opinions

Also: paintball will be 'preserved', we will still be able to play (until they ban the ownership of airguns at all, of course!), but it will be crippled and stunted it wont be able to grow and improve. just be stuck and eventually we'll have to stop playing.

If the bill is defeated in the houses of commons and lords then president Blair will probably push it through on the Parliament act.... or am I being cynical...

Im definitely in the "educate the public" group. Too many times ive been called a wkend warrior or wanna be rambo just because i play paintball. A couple of times ive had a copy of pgi on me and when ive sat down and explained that woodland is just half the story they always turn around and say how cool it looks and how they want to get into the sport for themselves. i think maybe site operators who dont do walkons because they are purely commercial should actually invest in just one superair field that the punters can play on. Maybe a quick expalanation of how tourneys work and a flyer with web addresses at the end of the day that will further explain all facets of the sport. I say this because most peoples first contact with the sport is usually a work function or a stag do or one of those Delta Force fellas flogging tickets in the high street. Then at the office the following week when they tell everyone about what they did at the wkend and they then get the wanna be rambo retort they can actually answer appropriatly and tell them all about sup'air, and how its a lot more than that and so on and so forth. Education i think is essential other wise in five years time we wont have the numbers to defend our noble cause because no one knows who or what we really are.

A laudable goal, with just one small drawback. The drawback is that it isn't the generl public who need educating but those with legislative powers (the government) as they are the ones pushing for the ban on import manufacture and sale of anything gun shaped.

Educating the public will still help, because there will be more pressure to keep it legal if say, half the country supports the cause (unlikely, but in that instance would they really ban it?). I like the flier idea mentioned a page or 2 back, it could help quite alot if fliers were handed out before tournaments, even if just to get the spectator side of things a bit stronger.

bah ha ha :p

i remember when i was your age...hell it was only three or four years ago. I even wrote to my MP :) trying to get PB realised as a sport.

tell you where it got me :) absolutly fuucking nowhere. Mp's have no time for real people - only those from who they can gain the most notereity (sp) from. a) the elderly, b) the yobs, and c) the druggies.

the goverment just wants something to latch onto, and nothing you, i, or anyone can do will stop them from pushing the sucker through if they wanted to

Lifes a bitch - live with it :)

To get back on topic ;) :

Nothing will be done by anyone (including me) until it is too late. Typical British apathy - "if we ignore it - it'll go away".

Let's be honest - if only to ourselves - we are all going to go on playing our game until the sh1t hits the fan. Then we will probably rely on people like Mr Bull to sort it out for us (again!).

We are all too concerned with how 'bling' our gun is or how fast we can get bullets out of the barrel to be bothered with 'politics'.

Let's just all sit back - relax - have another cup of tea and a rich tea biscuit and wait...

Marker registration reared it's head again - and I was all set to re-start this up with Mad Dog and UKPSF backing. But marker registration is just not going to happen as no-one can be bothered to register theirs. And even if we do register them - it won't help against this proposed ban. Registration will just make it easier to trace makers in the event of a theft - and even then, as it is not compulsary - who is going to fill in a 'change of ownership' form everytime they sell theirs on?

Paintballers are concerned with one thing - playing paintball. They are not bothered about the 'behind the scenes' work - they just want to turn up and play - simple.

Most event organisers do the behind-the-scenes stuff for them - insurance, first aid etc. - so why should they be bothered with it if they have paid the entrance fee?

Maybe we should start a new poll - who has actually done something about this bill besides bitch on here and other forums about it?

And before somebody mentions ramping - you can quite easily hurt somebody with a non-ramping gun - so that isn't even an issue in this case. In fact, these so-called experts at the HO don't even know what ramping (bps or velocity) is - and don't care. It only takes one shot in the wrong direction.

Try going on www.bbc.co.uk and enter 'paintball' in the search field to see what I mean.

Anyway - I'm off back to my cuppa and biscuit...
