BUt, when i told the judges to get the chrono off the range, they just ignored us and kept on chronographing anyhow.

And, on field one, before we played AFGM, they only chronographed 4 guns from our team.
That was the game against us mate. I saw that happen but then another marshal (Alien) seeing that the first marshal was having problems then used the same chrony to continue chronying the markers and all shots were under 300 fps... possibly just the way the first marshal was holding the marker to the chrony?

As has been said tho due to the heat some paint was swelling. a tighter fit in the barrel would account for some shots being over 300....

Chroni's

I was playing the series2k3 on sunday.Great day!

But on field 2, was asked to chroni, no problem I said cause had just been to the "official" chrono station and set it at 280.
When I shot my balls, imangine my surprise when it reads 301,302,299.....the guy from the other team also had a "hot" gun.
He had a allen key and could turn his down. I was allowed to have another go. This time it came out just under!

After the game, I checked it again with the on field chrono, and again it was close to 300.

So I went back to the "offical" chrono to reset my gun, only to find it back to 280!!!!!!!!

I know guns can go up and down during the course of the day. But not in 5 mins. So went to tell Bully. He tells me that they do not calibrate the chroni's. And its the players responsibility to check his gun with the "on field chrono" and carry allen keys to adjust it there and then.
Seems a bit silly to me.
I agree that all guns should be checked just before play, and then a random couple after.

this is the critical point, if you read the instructions of the handheld chrono's they state that you should not hold the device at all, you should hang it from barrel with the supplied strap!

from experience if you hold the chrono straight you will get say 280fps, if you slightly turn the chrono by say 2degrees it will read 320fps ish!!!!! this is why they should all have straps on them, as per manufacturers instructions

I thought the point of the handheld chrono was to check players as they were playing or did I get that wrong:confused:

I cant imagine to many players being happy with a marshall hanging a chrono off their barrel as they are letting a string of balls go:confused:

As for breaking pots/hoppers, ever thought their was a weakness in the plastic? Exposure to sunlight/dropping/rolling on said items will weaken their structural integrity allowing the sharp impact of a ball to break the item. As for goggles, all manufacturers recommend changing a lens if it takes a direct hit, again for the same reason as above. Trouble is players dont due to expense/time and can be playing with a weakened lens without realising.

That welt must have been caused by a solid ball!

I've been hit like that before, you think the ball must of burst due to the impact, check yourself and find out it was a bouncer and then at the end of the day thats the one thats left the biggest welt!

Did this ball break on you Barbie or was it a bouncer? You dont say. Hope it heals soon:)

I'll agree with you there. Nearly all the chroni's on the fields read differently to the chroni station. Also, on field 2, the chroni was on the floor, and so you either had to tilt your gun down to position it on top, or you had to shoot the marker a couple of inches above it. not really ideal if you want to make sure you are shooting ok.

yeah they are used in tournies by hand under barrels but the instructions state that an inaccurate reading will result! the strap should be used, and i think you will find that if a player is found during a game to be over 300fps by the handheld, unless it is hung from the barrel as per manufacturers instructions and operating proceedures they have an arguement and should be allowed to chrono after the game by either the static chrono or the handheld WITH strap!

one of our guys got hit one in the front and one in the back and both shots made a hole in his playing top big enough to get your little finger through!!
