By law you have a right to breaks for food and rest , if the smoker decides to spend this time smoking then thats up to him.
The Man United analogy does not fit as being crap at football makes you unable to do the job.
If the guy can do the job as well as the next man thats all that matters, in this case the company is clearly looking to save money on their health insurance plan.

|Right then... I'm now a non smoker. Used to smoke 30/40 a day until about 4 weeks ago when I saw a hypnotist. Fair crack I would have a cig through the day when I should have been working, I would also have one before and after I left a clients site. So I would have an extra say 20 minutes of break time during the day than other people did, or so it would appear.
But you necver saw me leaving work at 5 on the dot, or taking a full lunch break, so this time was more than made up for in other ways.
The way I look at it, okay you smoke, your gonna die early, or the odds dictate there is a greater chance of this happening??!! I never let smoking effect the way I worked. It neither bothered me or any of my colleagues because I smoked well away from those who did not.
Think what it comes down to is smoking is becoming more and more a non sociable habit than it previously was. To the point now of the removal of 'soking areas' etc from cafes etc.
If you want to smoke smoke, if you want to drink drink, if you want to spend all day posting messages on forums!!?? Well if I was your boss I would be displeased

Well 15 min ago i just got called from my contact company .. My contact ends this friday all though it still had a month left on it ... the reason well **** u can guess your self ....

When I bumped into you when I was at uni I was really shocked, but thanx for fixing almost all the pc on the campus, so I can come onto these fine forums on my frees

It's the same at my school........... how do you justify the "don't smoke" message to kids when they can see the staff doing it? Tricky situation........ I hate smoking, the companies involved and the government that permits it. All these half arsed attempts to discourage it are too little too late......... you smoke 30 a day, you are going to die before me and have a lower quality of life. Simple as that.......... our government permits and encourages it with one hand, then makes it difficult to live normally with the other.
I was asked if anyone in my family had a history of heart disease while I was in hospital........ we don't know, no-one has died naturally, all have been taken by strokes, atherosclerosis,emphysema etc...... I'm the first generation of my family to be a non-smoker, maybe I'll get to die of a heart-attack.
It's all crap........ bollocks to every government that permits it........for christs sake the packs say "this will kill you" but they permit it to be sold? WTF is that about. They banned beef on the bone for sod all (I did some of the research.....no proof) and caused the egg industry to all but collapse over salmonella.
Sorry about the soap box, but it started to get to me after my last auntie died coughing up lung. And before the smokers start on me... it's not you I'm getting at, you're the victims. I'm all for choice, but this isn't much of a choice, so why give it to people? Ecstasy etc... is class A...... taken widely yet manages to kill very few people... maybe if they taxed it they'd legalise it? (I don't take it and I'm not pro-drugs, I don't even take pain killers.... but I'd sooner see a relative merry as hell than coughing up their guts every morning).

ah don't worry bout it jose....just do what our teacher (only one of two in the school does) does and smoke witht the 6th form...we all think he's a legend..... or do what the other one does and get your own office....we however all think he's a twat....
