The problem here, is not so much our resident nutball promoter but the powers that be (in Amsterdam) who allowed these people to have their way in banning the use of the camera by the Russians.
It was weak willed and completely unjustified and they should hold their heads in shame !!!!!

Now Sean mentions above the possibility that the Russians should be allowed to film but not commentate.....er why ?
Why shouldn't they commentate ?
These guys have done no wrong for God's sake, we shouldn't be stopping them from doing anything they want as long as it breaks no rules.
Now I know Sean's suggestion was well meant but let's not get fooled into half hearted measures that shouldn't be implemented anyway.

Deranged people aside...

...surely the simple answer here is to have a section on the usage of camera's added to the Millenium rules, stating clearly what is allowed, one way or the other. Petty, I know, but maybe the only way. Though teams may have a problem with being told they can't film, I can't see the issues raised being as bad as if ONE team are told they can't film.

The main issue here, as I see it, is one of bias by vested interests. Such bias, and the associated comments, must have a psychological impact on the targetted team, regardless of the specifics of the comments made.

Maybe that is the idea.

Having read this and various other threads over the last few months on various issues about the larger tournament series.

The main problem seems to stem from the self vested intrests of promoters and there teams!!. May be for the series to grow it needs to look at the influence of these promoters and there teams even to the extent that the a promoter can not be a member of a team or have any ties to a team playing in the series. This would then help cut out the BS that slowly destroying a major european series. I do not want to tar all the people involved with the series with the same brush, as there is alot of them who are doing there best to give us the players the best stage to show what we can do, against the best teams, but the few a destroying the reputation of the whole and these need to be kicked into touch before its two late.

As regards cameras and commentry, If we ever want paintball to appeal to the masses then spectator support is needed. Spectators need to feel involved cheering on there teams, etc not sitting in stunned quite.

just my thoughts

cheers

What is the big problem!!
In all pro sports the camara is used, weather it is to improve ones tactics or to study anothers. Why should one team be penalised for filming their games in order to improve their game.
What it all boils down is certain members of our community being jealous of the legion's dominance of the game. They cannot understand that the russians are a powerhouse of paintballing and in order to explain this they make up a ludicous accusation. I mean saying the Legion were transmitting orders to each other through the use of radio gear, and then when finding the accusations to be wrong saying that they must have implants fitted. This guy who made said accusations must have been up all night watching the x-files and through sleep deprivation couldn't tell the boarders between real life and fantasy.
We all know that the russians are a great team and the reasons why is because they practise, practise and practise again. They have got the art of a set play down to a 'T' and always know where there team m8's are going to be at a set time.
If only the people trying to dirty the Legions reputation spent as much time with their teams practicing as they did making up fairy tales maybe they would be as good as the legion.

So let me see if I have this right.

The Rusian Legion are treating paintball as a sport, and their players as athletes.

RL do things that are standard in all other sports, like video analasis, in order to improve their playing ability.

RL has a coach, who films the games, and makes commentary on the tapes while filming.

The rest of paintball, who do not consider themselves athletes, took offense to this and are trying to put constraints on what RL can do?

Seems to me that the rest of paintball has some SERIOUS catching up to do with the Russians, but instead decided they mut all be cheating. They're not cheating, they're ATHLETES. (And not just enthusiasts)

Hmmm...I really have to wonder. Does someone have it in for the Russian Legion? At Portugal they were accused of cheating with markers capable of firing full auto. Then at the DMA a score sheet goes missing that would have affected things. And now at they're accused of cheating with surgically implanted communications devices (That is the fecking stoopidest thing I have ever heard). What’s going to be next? WTF is going on? And if there is a tinge of "The evil empire" phobia, get the hell over it...

things need to continue changing. On the specific issue of screwing with the RL's taping--that's obviously and completely inappropriate, a) to single them out when others are doing the same and b) to improvise a "rule" of sorts completely outisde the bounds of what's on the books and at the behest of an also obviously self-interested individual who simply has the clout to try and get his way. If you ban taping connected to specific teams it has to be banned for everyone and it has to be institutionalized in the rules otherwise it's just another ham-fisted manipulation. Now the question is will this issue be addressed before Toulouse?

On the larger issue, this is one more illustration of the problems created in the way money is made by promotors at this stage and with participants also sometimes being promotors, sponsors, big paintball business and/or elements of all of the above. As has been noted in the past it creates conflicts of interest--both real and potential--and by its nature applys pressures and can influence events well beyond the bounds of fair and equitable competition.
And frankly, the more it's talked about the more pressure the players can apply to have those with power take steps to amend the current process--with the competition committee a reflection of the Mil Series taking progressive steps and in the NPPL the vast improvement seen in Chicago over Vegas and the self-imposed limit of 96 teams announced for Atlantic City based on limitiations of the venue are different but clear signs that the players' voice is heard (and as long as the players' dollars fund the enterprise they will be listened to.)

PS--this thread definitely should be in tourney or at least copied to it. hint, hint, nudge, nudge
