You seem to be advocating against the town names in teams as if its an alternative to proper training.
As I see it, we need to train as proper sports teams and act like proper sports teams. The team name is just one small part of that.

No it just seems that by adding a town name, people think the UK balling has changed, when all we've done is updated the wrapper. Much much more needs to be done, imho........

I'm losing this one.

Indeed, surely its all part and parcel. Twisted aint gonna stop training becasure we're playing the CPL. On the contrary we'll be training more often and harder. As we are hoping results from this will bring in out of industry sponsors which will go on to helping us play MS next year and hopefully stateside the season after.

If putting 'Macclesfield' in the name helps then so be it.

Agreed!!!!! I fookin' hate 'Macclesfield Twisted, Twisted Macclesfield' or anything else, but we love the Twisted name and are loathed to rename.

With regards to mixing up teams to get the new geographically named teams up and running, I doubt very much that that is happening... more, as in What Pauls team is doing, a re-branding exercise.

Paul how about Macclesfield's "Twisted" so not actually in the name?????? :D

I know that Leicestershire is hadley the hot bed of paintball but I know of only one team from here abouts "Team Rebel" and seldome even hear of a player from around here.

All of my team left Rec ball together just over a year ago and it is looking as if I will have recruit from local sites if I can as my team is over committed.

This will be what is so good about the P.A. cup, the link of the team to the populous to allow maybe some form of recruitment drive into tournament paintball.

Its not about changing your team name or even mixing players from different teams as such but it is about getting recognition for your efforts, which putting your towns name in the title, will help.

If the PA Cup had been played without town names would Manchester appeared on a primetime BBC show? NO! If you want to put a Paintballing team on that show who were the best you would pick Dynasty (no offence Manchester, bear with me) but what relevence has Dynasty got to anyone, you could call them Paintballs world champions but nobody knows where the fcuk they come from. Everyone knows Manchester, it makes sense and in my eyes raises Manchesters efforts above Dynasty's because they have put Paintballing on the map for their location.

Teams do not have to cannabalise themselves or others to take part in the PA Cup, you can live outside the area your representing, it just makes more sense to live there (you wont feel such a fraud ;) ) In the future, you will see teams with players on them from around the world representing an area as you do in football etc. If someone has the money and drive to bring in outside players (Americans etc) they will but there has to be a reason and that reason will be money. Winning a national title now doesnt give you much except kudos, in ten years time it might give you and your team enough money to play all year for no personal expense, but only if a sponsor can see the benefits of putting up the prize money ie exposure of their brand name. The Campaign Cup gets exposure due, I would suggest, to its size and venue. If you had a national league that held events monthly with a national champion at the end of it, there is interest for a whole season not a one off event, way more exposure for the sponsor. At the start of the season the media will bring you the first event and then update regularly so the local populace can follow the result.

We are at the start of something here not the middle or even end. When Arsenal, Manchester Utd, Liverpool etc football clubs were formed can you imagine being involved then, forming that team and then seeing where it has got to today and all the triumphs over those years. How proud would you be? All those people who start representing there towns now will leave a legacy for future generations to build on. Also, how many sports do you know in your area at their highest level (divisional or county) that you would be able to literally walk into their team and play or even form a team and join their league. NONE! You cant suddenly become a Conference team let alone a Premiership side, you cant be a rival County squad. In Paintball, at this moment in time, you can start a team that will represent your area, your town. You can be someone and you can be recognised as a founder of that team and a player of an exciting team sport. That is what putting your town's name on your Paintball top will achieve, winning all the Millenium/NPPL/PSP events will only get you your 15 minutes of fame, not the lifetimes recognition.

Stongl - please don't get the UKPL and the Paintball Association mixed up; you seem to think they are interchangeable terms but they are completely different things.
The PA is the brainchild of Andy & Gillie Hatton & started with the PA cup, which is where teams represented towns or cities, at an event at Witton Castle this summer. The idea was sucessful enough for them to decide to go ahead with a full series next year - sucesses like national media comments, William Hill opening a book on it & paintball being on They Think it's All Over.
The UKPL is an organisation set up by the people responsible for the 4 main series playing in the UK this year, with the aim of consistency across rules etc, having a national championship that teams qualify for by competing in these series, and having a common disciplinary committee.
Different people, different organisations, different purposes. This DOESN'T mean to say they are at cross purposes however.

Regarding major cities & the number of teams from that area, look back at the soccer analogy. Wimbledon, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Charlton etc etc etc. All London based teams (some of whose players don't live inside the M25, or weren't even born in the UK), just named after different parts of London.

can I just add - the Paintball Association (PA) League planned for next season is not the CPL.

The original concept for teams to represent their home towns is only part of what the PA is working hard to achieve - this must go hand in hand with a raising of standards and a professional attitude. More details to follow soon but please don't confuse us with others.....
