Accuracy and Barrel Length
Jan,
The article was reffering to the acceleration of a paintball:
"In theory they also help with accuracy but that's another post."
I am aware that as soon as the porting begins, the acceleration effectively stops, however:
"Under some circumstances there is a good reason to use a short effective length barrel. Short barrels cut off the acceleration abruptly by venting and this has the effect of tightening up the shot to shot velocity variation."
So the porting does help the 'up/down' accuracy if you like, what I am chiefly concerned with (since I'll be getting an air system on my Cocker, 'up/down' consistency shouldn't be a problem, its really left/right consistency that I'm on the look out for.
Since my post I have been on a practice day at 6E with the Killer Clowns (thanks guys, I think I have most of the paint out of the nooks and crannies from my gun now, those 4 on 1 drills got REAL messy
) and we did an accuracy drill involving shooting at polystirene cups at varying lenghts, I found my accuracy with a 10" stainless barrel really good (the paint fit was superb, as was the paint) hitting 4 out of 5 targets.
Can I expect even better accuracy from 12"+?
Is there anyone who actaully knows about the physics of this? Isn't there a "Physics of Paintball" website?
Thanks to all those who have posted their experience, I suppose the answer is that even if I do get a 10" front, I can always buy a longer one later they're only about £30 if I am struggleing accuracywise.
Richard (18" Boobstick, I'm feeling somehow inadequate all of a sudden) Kirke
