I'm sure they will...

I'd really like them to finish higher than 7th as well. What I'd like more than that is to be able to go to more tournies myself.

If I had the money, I'd be pushing to go to loads more with my team, but seeing as our average age is almost twice that of Thunders (so is out average weight), we have problems with things like kids, arthritis and stuff like that.

Quite frankly, the only reason I am working on this dodgy island is to get together enough money so that I can play the Mayhem Masters without having to sell a kidney or the horse I [allegedly] own half of. Not that my fiancee would ever let me....

Money is always the limiting factor. If it's not going to get cheaper to play (which it isn't) then I am going to have to earn more. That's what I am doing. I don't like spending three months away from my fiancee and my new home (I've spent three weeks there since we moved in), but if I want to play Mayhem, it's what I have to do.

The next time someone slates me for team loyalty, they get a broken nose.

Read back to TJ's prozone in the Nov '01 issue and he compares his pre-game warm up with Dave Elliot of the Banzai Bandits and it's scary how close to the truth (dave's) account of a pregame warmup is!! Many of the brits just seem to slop around without any kind of rigourous training routine!! It's no surprise that some of us are so terrible! Right then, off to the pub me thinks! :D

I know wookie quite well so it's no harm done, a bit of a misunderstanding - so let's all be friends :)

But yeah, it require a sea change in attitudes for the UK to truly compete in the World (realistically Euro) stage.

Now, I';m afraid I'm going to concentrate on Novice for a moment here as that's where tomorrow's top Am's and Pro's are at the moment and I for one feel that a lot of the existing UK Am and Pro talent is a "too far gone" to be able to change fast enough to really challange the Euro dominance (K2 possible exception)

Look at Campaign for gods sake - out of 50 something UK Novice teams, we can only get 1 (Dark Angels) into Finals and they are a presumeably stepping up to Am after a couple of good seasons in Novice now. I can't see how they can stay Novice for yet another year or Mills.

Play the Millennium events and you'll see the difference. I know of Katz and Jags hoping to do at least 4 Mill events. Thunder will be at 5, possibly all 6 (any fornt guys wanting to do portugal?). Does anyone know of any other Novice team squads playing 4/5/6 events other than us 3?

I hope that this year, Thunder learn a lot, justify our sponsors and get at least a top 3 series result. All being well, thunder will step up to Am next year and be able to continue that path.

And we are always interested in Sup-air training with other teams if people want to mail me.

Don't even compare the UK to the USA, its only the size of Texas.

As an American, playing on an American team based in England, I think paintball is great here. We will be traveling to Europe for several of the Millenium events this season, and can't wait to see how those teams handle a marker.

And if paintball ain't about socializing, I don't want to be a part of it.

See you in the middle

Apart from the sheer cost of going to all the Millenniums (anyone added it up yet?), there's the time factor.
I'm actually going to all of them this year, courtesy of Smart Parts who needed more slave labour (just joking Phil;) ), and I've worked out that it's gonna take about 15 days of my annual leave. Take off a couple more days for doing all the things that have to be done like if I have to have repair men in, that leaves me about a week for any other kind of R&R like visiting my distant family. Already had to turn down 3 holiday offers this year as I just don't have the time, & I don't have a spouse/offspring I need to consider like some players.

Uk paintball is with a few exceptions behind Usa, France and Scandinavia. Way behind.
If it wasnt for Shockwave, Rushers and sometimes Banzai. What do you guys really have? You used to have alot of good teams but they are over the hill big time.
In Scandinavia we have had 4 events that have had over 35 teams each within the last month!
Teams like NBK-Ugly Duklings- Powertrip-Joy-Twillight-Hardcore-brutal Deluxe etc etc is playing against each other all the time.
If I compare the Scandinavian amatuer teams with the Uk teams its not even close. If you dont belive me just check out last years results in the amatuer division.
Even when its just a practice day its packed. ( We went for a indoor field for practice and it was 15 teams there )
The European challenge to the US will not come from UK it will be Scandinavia for sure!
Magued Joy division ( sponsored by the UK`s best WDP :) )
Feedback please!!

Hey Mag,
That's pretty rich coming from a guy whose (Joy Division's) only success last year was as a direct result of having two to three top American pro players in your line up playing in all the Millenniums!!!!
And you were the first to admit that to me young man !!!!!
So if you are gonna come on here givin it the billy big'un to the detriment of our beloved England you had better back it up with stuff YOU have won and not because of some prostitution issues you got going with our American cousins.
And before you go into denial mode, I will tell you how much you would have won without the likes of the Yanks in your team......diddly squat, that's how much you would have won, and Shockwave ?
They won a Millennium event with ONLY Brit Players.
I don't give two ****s about the relative status of the Amateur ranks, in mine and your books Magued, we are only interested in the pro side of the game and to that end mate, we beat you hands down in events won with a 100% pure national line up.....Hee hee

Practice.

Hey Magued,
I beleive the problem with the UK struggling is lack of prestige at tourneys here. There is no longer a central quality event that draws all of our teams together, and as used to be some from europe as well. With this you may get a few Pro teams at an event who clear up but don`t get tested as such because the majority of there games are just going through the motions.

From the image of the kinda teams I get that must turn up at a Swedish tourney it`s probably hard work every game?, your game steps up.

We have struggled last year in the Millenium partly due to team issues but more so on how we practice. We layed off the drills and started playing local events and this actually brought our game down through being able to play sloppy but win.
Bad habits become the norm as you are not losing through doing it, but get back to the Millenium and Bamm!

I have to agree with you even though I want to be patriotic ,but all the time our teams think they are playing great by winning a tourney in a muddy field somewhere we are just kidding ourselves. I for one have pushed that our guys go back to drills to get our **** quick again, but if quality events are held, then there is no better practice. But a poor event will set you back more than the tin trophy is worth.

Oh come on, it's all so obvious!
Basically the UK is just a big island, so you are all inbred. :D
Over here in mainland Europe (for the topographically challenged, Scandinavia is part of that) we have such a huge selection of some of the proudest, tallest and blondest of überpeople, so we are bound to be good!
Wait a minute, when was the last time a Dutch team won a major event? Oh yeah, never! Forget what I said, except the inbred bit. :D

Jeez, trust an Egyptian viking to stir up trouble on the boards.....nice one Magued.

I hate to piss on your bonfire but the Euros are basically in the same boat as us Brits.
If you read all the other similar threads they say "Why are all non US teams crap" so just because we decide to take it personally doesnt mean you have the right to join in and pick on the little guy just to make you feel good.

Each country in Europe has one or 2 good pro teams but its the US teams who are consistently dominating the international tournament scene, purely because of the amount of Money involved.
