The best action heroes are all old now, and strangely the young stars just can't hack it.
The Transformers/Eagle-eye kid - not tough enough
Orlando Bloom - You can try mate, but cutting it you're not.
Jake Gillenhall - Don't make me laugh
Toby Maguire - Cough - wimp - cough
Russ Crowe - comes accross as an *******, even when he's not supposed to.

Is there a solid tough-guy action hero under 40 these days, and if so, who is it?

OH - Daniel Craig - he'll count for one.

Perhaps the steroid-friendly days of the late 80's produced all the mucle-bound heroes we're likely to see?
Hugh Jackman of course!

Liam Neeson (sp?) is very good, surprisingly good in fact, as an action-hard man in Taken.

But that's only a one off - unless some Albanians steal his daughter again.

Rumours of a Taken 2 are doing the rounds...Taken was immense. Wasn't expecting it to be anywhere near as good as it was.

Absolutely. Neeson doesn’t look like much but give him a leather jacket and steal his daughter for the sex trade and "BAM" - he makes Jack Bauer's fighting skills look all sissy and girly.

erm, I just heard there's a 'Crank 2' movie?

apparently Jase didn't die when he fell 3000ft out of a helicopter, and took 2 full minutes to fall through the sky, before hitting a truck and bouncing into the air, and then lying still, with his eyes open, in a state of total dead-ness (lets not forget he was going to die anyway due to the 'chinese shxt' he was injected with...)
No - he survived. Then, the triads find him and remove his organs to sell on the black market. They insert a 'fake heart' (I kid you not), and the storyline is that the batteries to his fake heart have 2 hours left, and he has to run around killing ninja's for 1 hr 59 minutes before, presumably, he survives again.

Haven't seen the film yet, but it sounds like a total winner...

"Crank 2" is pure comedy gold.

I'm looking forward to "Crank 3", where they replace Jason Statham's head with a .50 cal paintball, and nobody notices the difference.

And don't forget "Transporter 4", where his environmentally unfriendly Audi is replaced with a Prius.

Which has a random girl in the boot, as always.
