two words. Steven Seagal absolutely god awful especially in under siege.
9 words dude, but the thing about Seagal is that he's legit. Well, kinda...

He offered out Arnie, Stallone and Van-Damme - said he could take them all at the same time. He was brought up in Japan, and is a legit Martial Arts master (Kendo).
His acting is awful, his hair is plain nasty, and his fashion sense - ew!
I mean, those jackets!!

But even so, marked for death is one of my fave films of all time.
Hard to Kill - now there's an awful film. Worse even than 'Fire down below', which is terrible. The thing with action hero-films is - is the action good? I have to say that in Underseige - both films - the action is great!!

I thought Segal did Akido?

The best action heroes are all old now, and strangely the young stars just can't hack it.
The Transformers/Eagle-eye kid - not tough enough
Orlando Bloom - You can try mate, but cutting it you're not.
Jake Gillenhall - Don't make me laugh
Toby Maguire - Cough - wimp - cough
Russ Crowe - comes accross as an *******, even when he's not supposed to.

Is there a solid tough-guy action hero under 40 these days, and if so, who is it?

OH - Daniel Craig - he'll count for one.

Perhaps the steroid-friendly days of the late 80's produced all the mucle-bound heroes we're likely to see?

I have to agree about younger stars not hacking it in the action world.

It does seem like the specialist action star is dying out. Vin Diesel had a go but never really made it and his turkey count just keeps going up. Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) has the physique of Arnie et all but with far more natural charisma and comic timing, but he can't seem to get out of his soap opera roots from his days in wrestling and so gets lumbered with dodgy "action comedies" (I'm looking at you, Welcome to the Jungle).

Some younger stars do have their moments (Matt Damon in the Bourne films, Gerard Butler in 300 etc), but they only occasionally step into the action world so there is no one who you can think of to be a consistent feature in action movies.

Just kidding about "Con Air".

The best film of all time is of course "Cocktail".

Actually, i'll watch anything with Elizabeth Shue in it - she was cute in "Adventures in Babysitting", then hot in "Leaving Las Vegas".

anyone who hasn't seen 'Amazon Women on the Moon' has missed out.

I strongly recommend you rent/download it.

There is a guy at my school who was in a Steven Segal film, something about some orphans but the guy is now a lover of the lavender passageway.

When hes in an action film, Keanu Reeves by far. He sure showed that bus/boat.

Surely Tom Berenger should get a mention somewhere? In only 2 movies he took out the whole of the Cali Cartel with a bolt action rifle (Sniper) and the other, Platoon he "kaka dow V.C." whatever that is but it doesn't sound nice.

Liam Neeson (sp?) is very good, surprisingly good in fact, as an action-hard man in Taken.

But that's only a one off - unless some Albanians steal his daughter again.
