Hi everyone.
I just needed to make a comment with regard to the criticisms being posted today about the federation cup event this weekend at Ancaster.
This whole event and what it stands for is a noble cause of the highest order. The federation and it members are mainly industry personal who have given their time and money,"A lot of money" to putting this thing together. Many in the group have been in the industry for a number of years and have seen it go through a series of changes, some good and some bad. There was a time when teams had a choice of two or three tournaments a WEEK! to choose from, pretty much all run reasonably professionally with teams returning time and time again. That time sadly has now gone. The campaign cup was a yearly event to which loads of uk teams used to get really excited about weeks in advance and the mayhem masters, christ , I knew teams that did'nt sleep for the week prior to that one! The idea behind this tounament was simple, to try and bring back the "sense of event" , the excitement, that for some reason has leaked out of the game. If it were not for Wendy and a couple of others ,who against all odds have managed to keep tournament paintball alive in the uk.
I for one have witnessed the hard pysical graft that lady and her team have done over this weekend and many weekends before that, and i assure you, all you little "rock stars" are not making her a millionare!
The federation was set up to help and endorse, and wherever possible build some international recognition for uk paintball, A way of showing that the "industry" cared for the team scene and wanted it to, not so much get back to the glory days , but to at least be able to hold its head high on the world circuit. Before the more cynical of you say "you industry types are only in it for the money you can get out of it" Well of course we are! its our business! but at the moment my friends pickings are thin...
The industry has invested in this and other projects to try to revitalze the game, but it cannot go on for ever. I think teams should maybe think along these lines," the industry is investing in us, trying to put some structure and kudos back into uk paintball, we should do the same"
you can do this in two ways, 1. Stop bitching about everything without offering some suggestion as an alternative. Criticism is worthless unless it it constructive criticism. The reffing issues are and always will be there, they do not as some suggest try their best to **** you over unless you are a complete prick, and if you are, you deserve it!. I absoloutely promise you that as a general rule that if you treat the reffs with respect even if you do not like their decision, over time it will become the reffing we all desire and they will treat you with respect, "that of the paying customer" which you are. My fellow Federation members welcome all constructive comments as to how we can improve, we meet every month, take a day out of in some cases very busy schedules to talk, argue, and thrash out ways of making this wonderful game better for you the players. This event was not perfect, far from it, but as a late arrival onto the diary i think it went pretty well, we did our best, and I thank all those teams who attended, the staff and refferee's, trade show, the field owner and everyone else who made the effort to be there, it was great to see you and I really hope you find yourself in the position to see uk paintball respected again as I know it used to be. Finally to all those people who constantly go on about the cost of paintball, listen , its a consumable based sport, that is an undeniable fact, if you cannot afford it, do something else.
regards to all .
Simon Cole.
