Evil products seem to have created a lot of controversy with their new line of t shirts. Typical slogans are; "cheaters live longer" "refs suck" & "Overshooting is not a crime". On many other PB boards people are in uproar over them saying that Evil and PMI will be the death of paintball. Overreaction or valid point?

What do you guys think?

Personally I love 'em

F*ck 'em. :)

But seriously, what the hell does it matter? Like any Serial Killer t-shirts bring an end to humanity, or Toxico ones cause anarchy.

If it was a small independant then so what - I think it's just because it's PMI

I was just wondering if it was because of "politically correct" America. What do you US players think? I am talking about the response the T shirts got as well as their content.

As Conan the Barbarian always says when confronted by the unknown--

"Crom."
It's a loser in the longer term for a couple of reasons--
they're playing the rebel without a clue, iconoclast card to appeal to what they think is the x-treme youth crowd, you know, colored hair, tatts, piercings, etc. but that whole scene will change as it quickly becomes no longer kewl or trendy. Other problem is you start down that marketing road, along with a dozen others pball companies, and you have to out-"bad" your last pr campaign with the next one and look where that left Warped--strippers and midgets--there's a winner for ya.
It's also hypocritcal and counterproductive and short-sighted as pball is trying to evolve out of the slime and into a sport which will only benefit PMI long run.
Personally it's just a shirt. Who cares? I wouldn't wear one 'cus it seems like a cynical ploy to me. Since when was a giant corporation anti-establishment?

PS--at a guess most complaints from within some area of pball community probably relates to pball's image and not PC concerns. Most 'ballers aren't particularly PC. In fact, most everyone outside the universities and media aren't PC.

Excellent post BTW
What do you think about the new P8 t shirts which use the Salm incident as a selling ploy? Isnt that just as bad?
A lot of the posts were not just concerning the Evil t shirts. Many people were offended by the bad language used on the site ( there was nothing too offensive in my opinion). Also people seemed to think that the t shirts would actively promote cheating.

I dont normally read other PB forums and I was amazed on how restricive they are and also how easily people get offended. I suppose P8 is a more relaxed board and people here have thicker skins :D

1--too kind and perceptive too! :)
2--not really the same thing as P8ntwear design makes fun of a situation but doesn't either condone it or glorify the behavior though some might argue that mocking it makes light of it and minimizes the impact.
3--the t-shirts DO actively promote cheating by simplistically minimizing the impact, as if one player's self-serving behavior doesn't have a larger impact across the game as more and more players engage in same conduct.
The language choices are just part and parcel of image they're trying to generate. As PMI has always been predominantly a wholesaler I guess they are now trying to build demand side interest at the customer level to help maintain accounts and such.
4--y'all should be grateful that the level of discourse even when heated is typically more intelligent here so it hasn't been necessary to play police. (except of course to sweep the rubbish out of Tourney  )
5-- no doubt where Robert E. Howard got the original idea. :D

To put it rather simply....."Timing."

Coming out of the box with the Salm incident, ( who would have forsaw that one ) and with the way WC came off this year, I'd say alot of folks are a bit hyper-sensitive to this whole cheating issue.
