I'm not familiar with the UK immigration situation, Duff, but as far as the US is concerned, we have a problem with ILLEGAL immigration (as in, against the law). That has nothing to do with racism ("seeing all those brown faces"), it's got to do with not wanting people you have no control of walking into your country at will to sponge off of social welfare programs and bankrupt hospitals and school systems. And by "no control", I mean these people are not screened, we don't know who they are, we don't know their background, we don't know their intentions, and because of the availability of false identification documents, we don't even know who or where they are. What we do know is that they broke the law entering the country without notice, they export 20 billion dollars a year back home to Mexico anually and have hospitals and schools on the border literally going broke, because the majority of them also don't pay taxes. And despite what our president might have you believe, not all of the people here illegally are here to do tough labor jobs and live new, happy lives. At least not juding by the fact that 26% of the folks in our tax payer sponsored prison system, are illegal aliens. That's not mentioning that, contrary to what you may hear on CNN, they are NOT helping the economy in any way shape or form. Unless you see any advantage to having undocumented illegal workers working for less than minimum wage, driving down the wages for workers in just about every labor industry (which ordinarily I would consider great, if the free market was dictating it, but not when it's due to labor being had for illegal prices), all while waving Mexican flags in the streets and demanding made-up "Constitutional rights" that they wouldn't be entitled to even if they were citizens, which they're not in the first place. Believe it or not, the US actually has an immigration program that allows a fair few people into this country. We just have this weird little hang up about having the people, you know, speak our language, know how our government works, and not have a history of criminal activity. Outrageous stuff like that. Like I said, I can't speak for the British situation, seeing as how I don't live there, and don't get the British news, and if I've read too much into your posts, then I apologize (can't really tell whether you're inferring anything about US policy on the matter, or just the UK). Notice how this thread has absolutely nothing to do with VAT taxes anymore?
