Drug testing

On an olympic level, yes. You'll remember a few years back the Nagano Canadian Snowboarding flap. You don't? Oh! Well, seems the Super G Canadian snowboarder who won the gold was tested positive for marijuana use, but at the time it wasn't an illegal substance. So a toker took the gold.

Allegedly, he ate it later. :D

Seriously, the further up the run of competition you go, the more likely they will test. That being said, I don't think that MLB routinely tests athletes. It seems to me that it's more amateur sports, and high money sports. Remember Team Festina and the blood doping incident at the Tour de France?

You are correct Sir! But we all know at the Olympic levels they test.

As for MLB yes they do RANDOM testing. Once they get caught they are tested monthly or something like that and they are sent to rehab! Don't you remember that JACK@$$ Daryll Strawberry? This Jack@$$ was at the top of his game and making millions just to sniff it all up his nose including his career and life.

I think we should be looking at the difference between recreational and performance enhancing drugs. I think just about everyone agrees that marijuanha isn't going to make anyone a better player, quite the opposite if anything, so we probably shouldn't worry about testing for it. However, there are other drugs out there that can make a big difference to sporting performance - if the didn't make a difference then why would athletes take them?

We also have to look at what types of these drugs would affect the performance of someone competing in PAINTBALL events. The recent case of a British skier being stripped of his medal illustrates this - the drug he took in error would actually be more likely to have a detrimental affect on his performance in that particular event, but as it was on the IOC banned list then he was banned. In Snooker beta blockers are banned as they can effect how steady the player's hand is, but no-one who competes in a physically active sport would consider taking them.

Sadly as the sport gets more and more mainstream & hits the big time, I think we will eventually find some forms of performance enhancement drugs being taken by the biggest teams of the future just like the cyclists of the Tour de France or the athletes of the old Soviet Block.

On a lighter note - as someone earlier in this thread said, if we banned the most popular recreational drugs we'd end up with tournaments with about 2 people competing!:D :D :D

(If you don't know, don't ask)

I played after taking shrooms one time

And man I was good.

I bunkered Jesus, Mohammed and Marge Simpson in one badass move - which was no mean feat as they were using tha Millennium Falcon as cover.

Seriously, this whole drugs testing thing, if anyone wants me to test any drugs for em, send them to tha magazine and I'm sure tha boyz will smuggle 'em across to me the next time they hop the pond.

peace

Interesting subject especially since Amsterdam is almost upon us.
(Hotel Hemp???)

Drugs in paintball?? I don't think it will happen! If you look drug abuse in sports its more or less exclusive in solo events.

Does anyone ever heard of someone boosted up in a team sport? I can't recall anyting.

The reason is that its TEAMWORK no matter how much coke or speed someone snorts at the end the team and the cooperation counts.
In paintball there is no room for that, its not a Rambo game if someone gets high and starts to play hero we all know what happens.
Maybe he will run faster or his reflexes will be lightning quick, but we all know that it wont help against 3 backguys throwing massive cover.
A whole team drugged up for 3 days??? I can hardly imagine how they would be able to keep up...

Plus drugs affect judgement and give sense of security, on a paintball field theese are among the biggest mistakes...

peace..

TJ: Man, mescalin is some tough stuff. I would think you wouldn't be able to play, let alone stand up while you just stare at your hand. Anyways, good job on that bunker move. THe Millenium Falcon proves some tough cover.

Yep, the Hemp Hotel in Amsterdam. It really exists. :D

As far as drugs in teamsports go, lately there have been a good number of soccer players that got busted with too much nandrolon in their blood. Funny enough, most of these guys were Dutch. Who would have expected that?
Also, during my American Football days, I've seen plenty of possible abuse. Players that didn't quite make the cut all of a sudden growing slabs of muscle and have an incredible boost in their performance over the period of a short off season. Makes ya wonder.....
Should the whole X-ball thing kick off, I can imagine that performance enhancing drugs, and particularly the ones that increase your stamina, would become more popular. After all, that format demands a far greater physical fitness from the players.
