Do you use energy food/drinks? Which?

All these energy drinks and bars are just a bunch of crap. All they do is give you a very short burst of energy, that'll eventually leave you more tired than you were. The reason is because most of them contain ****loads of sugar, which the body transforms into glucose, which takes a LOT of energy to do, kicking your body into high gear, which is the famous sugar rush. If you are a sugar fan, it's better to let the bees do the work for you, and use something with honey in it. Honey has already been turned into glucose by the bees, and is very good for you.

If you want energy, make sure you eat stuff with lots of carbs in it. Recommended foods are white rice, pastas, and chicken. Eat this as your meal(s) for the day. As in between snacks you should stick with the tried and tested fruits, bananas being particularly good as they are high on carbs as well.
Keep in mind though that these are not the kind of foods you want to eat when you are trying to loose weight (yes, this includes bananas), but they are great when you are trying to attain muscle growth.

Make sure you stay well hydrated. Don't drink anything with a lot of sugar in it, as this will only make you more thirsty, because of the energy rush your body will put on to make convert the sugars into something useful. It's best to drink what nature has put in you, namely water. Specific sports drinks like Gatorade are useful too, as they will help your body to retain water, and prevent dehydration.

If you feel that you are in need of extra energy, don't give in to the energy bar/drink malarky, instead it is best to apply your own energy reserves. This would be your fat tissue. Yes, that's where your body stores it's extra energy, and that's where you should get your extra energy from. This can be done by using so called fat burners, something which is quite common in professional sports, but be careful when using this stuff, the most powerful work really well, but have something called ephedra (not sure of the spelling) in it, which can be dangerous to the heart if taken in too large a quantity. For this reason most of the fat burners containing ephedra have been banned in a number of countries.

Hope this helped somewhat.

As i said Jay, Bananas and water;)

We (Shockwave) have a specific weekly diet plan that was done for us by one of the fitness and nutrition coaches at Manchester United Football Club. It lays out a weekly diet and meal plan, that we are supposed to adhere to. It states the best options to have for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and what is the best thing to eat in the 4 days running up to a competition and during the competition. It also has a plan for the 3 days after the event as well.

Thanks MAN U;)

Bananas are bad for me as i have a genetic condition, but for the day they would be useful.

I wouldnt touch that manufactured energy **** with a bargepole.

Would apples and fruit drinks work?

Is Robinsons drinks bad?

Would pure orange juice be good?

:)

Atkins is fine if you're a sedentary person trying to lose weight. If you exercise more than twice a week (running down to the pub for a pint doesn't count), then you need carbs in your diet.

As Jay said - you need to load up on carbs before the event. Pasta, brown rice (not white), potatoes/yams are all good sources of carbohydrates. Make sure you drink plenty of water with the meal or you won't process the carbs as efficiently.

On game day, stay away from sugar and caffienne. They'll give you a quick burst of energy, but then you'll crash (it's called an insulin spike. I'll elaborate if you want ;) ) Balanced sports bars or fruit. I prefer Powerbars. Bananas and oranges are good too - they come in their own disposable wrapper. At the end of the day, get a balanced meal with some protein (chicken, beef) and carbs (pasta, rice). A McDonalds Big Mac is not a balanced meal :)

It it's really hot out, drink watered down Gatorade or a similar sports drink to replace the electrolytes (minerals) you sweat out. A little sugar will help with the absorbtion of water and give you mild energy boost. Guzzling straight Gatorade will often give you the same sugar crash you get from candy bars or soda.

One last thing - if it's really hot, avoid energy drinks like Red Bull - they dehydrate you faster while masking the symptoms behind the sugar and caffienne. That's why some of the refs in Tampa needed IVs.

Ices - Fruit drinks are better than soda or energy drinks but not as good as plain ol' water or sports drinks. Most juices are too high in sugar. If you look at the label and one of the top three ingredients is sugar or high fructose corn syrup, avoid it.

yeh, like every1 else has said banana's are the best thing to eat. Its because they r loaded with suger so u get a quick burst of energy but they also have pottasium in them which stops you crashing (feeling tired 20 mins afterward) like you would if you ate like a bunch of chocolate or sumthin. As for drink waters good but if you can bring yourself to drink it add 2 tea spoons of salt and 2 of sugar to a pint of water. Thats what our rugby teams nutritionist recomends and its his job to know **** like that. It tastes f***ing terrible but it does the trick cos salt is actualy one of the major things that is lost when u sweat and u feel ****ty if u dont have enough salt in ya system.
