Which hurt a bit, but anyway. Its a lot easier to hate (to whatever degree) somebody you don't know. I find it a lot easier to cheer when a yank I don't know gets eliminated etc, than if its one of my friends.
If you know the guy then he is not classed as "American" he's Steve, or Bob or whatever, who happens to be American.
I have to say that I agree with Jay, if its a sport, and there are supporters, there will be chearing, booing, jeering and all the rest. So we're going to have to get used to it.
