I think Cowboy is right overall BUT…..

Chris has to remember that he is an ambassador to this great sport of ours.

We had media people around the stadium, this would have not look well if one of them catch this on tape or quoted this on TV / magazines.

Chris is one of the best players in the world and should be respected for this.

All he needs to do is watch what he say's in public.

but come on guys, what would you be like if every time you were shot out or lost a game people were laughing and chearing against you. cos thats what it is. Its less of wanting the other team to win, its wanting LaSoya and the 'lanche boys to loose...........and they are great guys if you talk to them so im just standing up for them.
Don't forget that this works the other way round too. I remember reading that a lot of insults were thrown at the Russian X-ball team. Americans cheer on their own teams just as we do. I see no problem with it. Also, every sport needs it's badboys... Them being nice guys in real life has nothing to do with it really. I hate the Dallas Cowboys, but I met Nate Newton and thought he was great.

In the Russian Legion V's Dynasty game at the end of the finals an American on the sidelines was abusing one of the Russian Legion players. Many of us told him to 'shut the 'f*ck up'. If it had been a Brit abusing Chris I would have done just the same.

How come more of us don't do it when abuse is happening against other players?

Jeremy Salm once told me that when they come over here, they don't just feel like they are playing the other teams but the crowd as well. I think that's kind of sad, since we used to welcome and cheer them when they first came over. And it's not an enviroment that's going to make them keep wanting to compete over here.

I agree with KO about Chris, the guy is seriously nice when not in 'game mode' but can come across badly when he is. He is due some serious respect for what he has done, not abuse.

exactly!!!!

its that playing against the team and the crowd feeling that i think we should work against.
Cos if we make the UK a great place to play then they will come back alot and by playing them we can only lift our own game.

Chris,

Dallas Cowboys is an American Football team.

Manike,

About that 'playing the crowd', he'd better get used to it (and the rest of the paintball world too) if we ever go mainstream. In any sport there is always the homefield advantage. In some sports some teams are quite reknowned for their fans and the way they heckle/distract the visiting team. I really don't see the fuss. It's part of any sport that has a fan following.
If any team can't handle the 'extra player' known as the crowd, then by all means, have them stay at their comfy homes, where they have the advantage. They are not a true sports team.
Face it, the days of paintball consisting of a good old boys network where everybody knows eachother are numbered, and this is one of the results.

but we are not at that point yet are we.......so whats going on is not the same as a crowd situation. It is very personal and i wouldnt wish it on anybody. Maybe when we do have team followings then you could expect a dedicated fan group to be against the other team, regardless of where they are from.

We're not? Strange, I would see things differently. Does it matter if you have 10 or 10.000 fans? Is there a certain point at which the flaming starts? I can see it now...: "Great! We finally have 500 official fans! Now they are authorised to boo the other teams." That would be weird....
Okay, we are not at the point that we have enormous fan followings (although the Amsterdam Russian Legion vs Strange game drew several hundreds of spectators), but I dare say that at Campaign there were way more than 1000 people wishing nothing but the best for the Brits, and death, doom, and destruction (not really ofcourse) upon any team they played.
Anyway, that's just the way I feel, you feel different. No problem as far as I'm concerned. Only thing is that I don't think we'll see the end of this behavior. It'll only get worse the bigger paintball gets.

Richard if that's a quote from me, then you are taking a joke WAY, WAY, WAY out of context!

I hope that this phrase has not been taken out of context, I was trying to make the point that we don't hate americans, but rather we enjoy the idea of it. It would be absurd (IMHO) to suggest that you only went to america to shoot at yanks. I don't think that most Britt paintballers take anything that seriously. When you said it, you were joking, and when we say we hate americans, we are joking too.

That isn't to say that we hold up yanks as something that britts aspire too, they have a very different culture to us.

My apologies if I have misled anyone by not masking myslef clear, maybe teh word "hate" is too strong.

I shall now go and read the rest of the thread...

once agian apologies to anyone who took my comments out of context.
