>>>>>>>They don't owe players ****, they're giving enough as it is. I have a tough time being pissed at someone for not giving up their money the way I want them to, or not giving up more so I can have what I want. You should all be kissing Jerry and Chuck and Laurent's asses for giving you events at all, even if stuff doesn't go right all the time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...I'm glad you put that in Raehl, cos I was beginning to think you were serious...damn that's some funny ****.

And Montana, don't make me come down there and show you what I do for a real job...I already gots to take care of Saddam, Castro and Kathy Lee Gifford, but there's always room for one more.

"4--sounds like a real hassle and one that the NPPL database would help alleviate, but--you didn't actually answer my question. Has the PSP prior to an event ever insisted a rostered player be removed from a team or unilaterally moved a whole team to a different classification?"

I know that a local team was contacted for the last NPPL AC event, as a matter of fact) about the category they were playing in. Lane "suggested" they move up from rookie to novice because of comments/complaints from other teams. While I don't think it qualifies as 'unilateral', how much more can be done without an organized database? Can you imagine the headaches if someone (Lane) tried to arbitrarily move a team without some proof or basis for the decision?

Of course, the ones whining the loudest will probably be the biggest sandbaggers anyway!

This isn't a defense of the PSP or NPPL, just pointing out that some form of control has to be created before we can really enact some of these rules.

1--I hear ya, Tony, but that's really an insignificant issue, IMHO, 'cus the problem there was strictly the destinction between Nov and Rookie meaning wherever you put that team they weren't slipping in Ams or Pro class players to "help" out. Now that's sandbagging!
2--tell me what a database would do for the situation you mentioned? Were any of the players involved regular NPPL/PSP players so that they would have been registered? Lots of questions and not too many answers.

Besides, the real value of such a database and I.D. system is on site enforcement. When ANY league starts verifying roster identification with legal picture I.D.'s at registration and follows up with spot checks of league picture I.D.'s after chrono-ing at the playing fields then I'll believe it's an issue that matters to them.
btw, I don't mean to suggest Lane wasn't doing the best he could but that no institutional effort was made after the fact or to follow up Lane's pre-event measures.

I'm not Tony (the tiger), I'm Shamu (the whale). Don't get your animals confused :D

"2--tell me what a database would do for the situation you mentioned? Were any of the players involved regular NPPL/PSP players so that they would have been registered? "

Were any of the players NPPL/PSP regulars? Probably not. But I think the database would be a good start in tracking player classifications, making it easier to identify sandbaggers over time. As more players are entered in the database, it would be harder to drop down in classifications. Is the database by itself an answer? Nope, just a start.

You're right about site enforcement. I've never been checked for a card at a NPPL event. I didn't even have my card with me when I guested with a team at the last World Cup (I wasn't expecting to play, just coach a college Xball team) :p

Until the league - any league - starts checking IDs during the tournament, I'm going to think ID cards are just another way for someone to make a buck off me.

I can't believe I read all of that. I feel dumber already for the experience. I guess I'm mainly upset that I agree with Robbo's view on Chris.

PSP isn't the only game in town, so maybe they won't suck so bad this next year. I'll resist the urge to hold my breath so I can continue to enlighten you bunch.

We should know something by Friday...

Meetings in smoke-filled rooms are taking place and we should know a lot more about the status of NPPL Super and the directions many sponsors and teams take by the end of the week. The future of our sport is in their hands.

Tony, this years cup scheduling was the best I have ever been to. Some fields got a little behind but in general for the size of the event I though it was very good. I thought everything about this cup was excellent apart from the judging which at many times was appalling. I didn't have a major problem with the toilets either, only used them a few times though when I absolutely had to :D

manike

Damn, I just seen this post !!!
And do you think all people there including women and kids share your stoical views on the toilets ?
And the bleachers, you didn’t think they were a problem ?
And the site layout, this was good also was it ?
And the food on offer, that too was ok was it?
Listen Simon, he took more than half a million dollars in entries alone for God's sake, now add on monies for fields, booths and God know else Jerry charges for...and u can defend it ?
Nah, Simon, it was a f'kin farce again and I honestly can't see how you can reduce the problems at this tournament down to just judges, that just smacks of a whitewash !!!!
