Thanks Dave, Liz, Kerian, Ralph, and co. for Running such a good event.
Definate improvements over last time were the field layouts, the marshalling, and the quality of teams in division 1!

I spoke with Dave about the field dimentions and size (and the grass ;) lol ) and he explained that they are set up more like x-ball fields, so one thing i'd suggest is getting a few more big bunkers in the middle to stop the sweetspotting strait down the middle on the break, similar to the X on an X-ball field. The genius thing about the X is that it blocks so much view but it's very hard to actually play behind it because of the gap!
Anyhow the field layout was much better, (more snakes though ;) ) and really rewarded teams breaking out to the tape 50s.

The marshalling was very good as well, ralph is catching onto some team's 'tricks' and is looking for it, and we even got a 1-4-1 when playing against shabwave, but we still got to bonus ball the f()ck out of Kyle so that's ok! It's nice to see better marshalling, mad props to the tigers Am for getting out there and making a difference.

Finally it was a real pleasure to play some quality teams, Nexus Eclipse, Shabbwave, and Hybrid (we're going to beat you guys at some point!), as well as our old favorites Atmosphere and Redz.
Well done to Zone, i don't know what you guys ate for breakfast but you were playing so well! And Wolf too, always a good game against you.

Thanks again Dave (and crew) we'll see you all at the next one.

i agree with colin i am sure we were told the fields were 'sample' fields i.e not complete at the last leg.
i am all for agressive fields but these just seem like d7's can't be arsed to buy bunkers!
lets hope the rest of the sample field turns up for the 5 man.
Apart from that a well run event.

With regards the field design... who's job is that? Just interested to know the thinking behind the Tomahawk field with the laydown X. Not having a go as obviously every one had to play it the same but why all the low central bunkers and why not move the X out from the tape and allow play behind it? As i say, not a dig, just interested to know the thinking behind it.:)

I might be able to shed some light on this 4 U

It was in the center of field 3 last time and both teams would send 2 runners into the center of the X. This needed 4 Marshalls when the players energed from the Xtremes of the X. In turn this left 2 marshalls to react to calls of the other 10 players and bear in mind that this has happened in the 1st 90 secs.

True the marshals were inexperienced but they were not being helped with the layout of the field. Half way thru the morning session i had to go on and after a bit of cajoling and organization we got the field running quite well and i had no real probs with the PM session.

Anyways i told Dave about it who said that X should be standing up but the wind would not allow it to reamain in place. I suggested that the X be put on the boundry so that they would only be 2 points of the X that would need observation. and would release 2 marshals back into play from game on.

This seems to have been done, although dave will probably take all the credit 4 it:cool: I would have put it on the other side next to the other field as it was quite a big bunker which i felt imparied the spectators lines of sight which it would not have done on the other side.

Well that just opens up another whole can of worms, should the field design be compromised because of lack of or experience of marshalls?

As for the standing up of the X, it is done at every major event why not there? All it would take is to have some guy ropes fixed to one of the netting poles permanantly, then at each leg fix to top of X, pump up X, tighten ropes hey presto - it aint budging. The D7's probably have the best netting supports I have ever seen at a domestic event - make use of the good work done :)

That aside - the tigers did a great job designing field 3 giving us something different from every other leg so far...if only we got there early enough to walk it

I think you guys are thinking of this comment by Tris (the Northern Samurai:D)

Just off the phone to Jon Payne, the aforementioned Severe field was/is a prototype and this was made clear to the organisers of the D7 event. The field was trailed at the Elsham branch of JCS for a month and the problems mentioned above were reported back to the original manufacturer of this product. A field was required for the event and one was supplied FOC.
