Aight, nice point (don't agree personally), but you can join my club of "Points and posts that are going to get you flamed, cos no-one can take a frikkin joke".
hmmmm, well as we are decloaking as it were, I'm coming out of facetious mode for a second. I like a good debate and this one is definitely cerebral for SYB. I myself am not offended by naked women and have been an avid fan of Penthouse, Men Only and Playboy for years (probably a reason for my failing eyesight), so the sight of naked women is fairly passé. The use of sex to sell is hear with us to stay, but to be honest you become fairly desensoritised after a while. I've never bought anything because I thought Lisa Harvey was going to swoon lovingly all over my cock.....er, but that's just me (bugger that was facetious, cool wet grass, cool wet grass, cool wet grass, cool wet grass, I digress).
Men objectify women, and women objectify men has been going on for years and will continue, however I will say at one level your argument has merit, there does appear to be an "Over-sexing" of paintball and paintball products, but I don't think this is happening to objectify young scantily glad women (although maybe it is by default), it's paintball paranoia coming into play.
The reason for the "over-sexing" of paintball is the activity in itself is perceived as being war monger'ish, nerdish, or even sad by the wider public. Now I know we all know different, but that's not the perception of the majority of the outside world. Talk to a young lady in a club, things are going well, she's getting feely and touchy with you, she asks if you play sport and your like "hey baby I'm a top paintballer I mugged 6 of Dynasty the other day", and the next few words out of her mouth are going to be "Stop, No and Don't!!!". She's thinking your some compu-nerd running round the woods playing war with your spotty geeky mates (and that's when your not at home playing D&D or Command and Conquer), hardly the ferocious tyrannosaurus-sex she was hoping for.
Ballers in general or certainly in the UK have a certain paranoia about this, so go all out on the sex offensive, and they over sex it. To draw a simile, I have a friend who up until quite recently was the most homophobic sounding person in the world. When your young, people are like, "Oh, man that's gay etc", but that's where you stop. He was like "burn em, stab em, shoot em etc". You know what, couple of years ago he decided to come out of the closet, I mean we all knew, but he thought this would be a surprise. People often fear what they are at a base level. I don't know if I'm articulating it very well but I hope you get my point, I don't really do Freud, and this was just something that occurred to me.
Maybe another way of looking at it, is the way tourney players go on the all out Bling offensive to distance themselves from the Rec-ballers, like were some glamorous bunch and they're rather sad. By seeking to make our selves look good (and socially acceptable), maybe the hand has been over played. I mean listen to the average tourney player and we all drive Escalades with 23 inch platinum rims, and wouldn't be seen dead out in public without a gaggle of ho's (or is it a flock????).
So to sum up my self indulgence, I see your point really I do. Unfortunately I just don't believe that women are harmed by their portrayal in the Paintball press (I mean no-ones putting a marker to their heads), so if it sells let it continue. And besides to those of us with a proven Ho track record, it's water of a ducks back
