Barsteward and Liz pretty much covered what I was gonna say here.

Basically Aight, have a look at the ads in "womens" mags You'll see that they too use pictures of women to sell stuff, it seems that the only place that doesn't use pictures of women in advertising is Gay Male publications ( <- Assumption, I could be wrong.)

As for equality on the issue, I fully support the concept of Ledz in a bikini advertising Planet stuff. ;)

Alright Then

I understand that sex sells and I appreciate that point of view, glad we could sort out all that bickering too. Heh, it's funny that Mak thought I was a girl. Ibetter leave sticking up for women to the women in the future.

Robbo- It's cool that you thought I was somebody you knew but actually I'm a nineteen year old from Canada. Bet nobody would have imagined that! I'm a big fan of your 'Ask Robbo' column, it's too bad you won't be in touch :(

You can hide behind an annonymous sign in name but it's hard to disguise your phraseology all of the time.

A question-

Aight, are you personally offended by the ads featuring scantily clad women? I know you find the women attractive, and all that, you said so, and I am not questioning your sexuality. You can find something fun but wrong, like throwing acid on people on campus, and reject it even if you think it's sorta cool.

I'd say market forces are going to sort this out- if PGI loses readers due to the ads, they'll dry up.

As for me, I buy products due to research. There is a lot of info on the web. If I want to be exploited by women, I buy porn.

Yes, I said exploited by women. Who ends up with the money? The women who are paid to model. They are exploiting men's crasser side. We buy the stuff, they profit. Our weakness is exploited for profit. Maybe their vanity is exploited, but where's the cash going?

Paul, it was different with you, I never thought I recognised anything particular in what you posted, it was more the content and intelligence of what you wrote that made me think you were somebody who was cloaking.
After all, so much insider info and insight was rather incongruous from a self-confessed nobody (no disresepcrt intended).
Nah, I know who our friend Aight is :)

Aight, nice point (don't agree personally), but you can join my club of "Points and posts that are going to get you flamed, cos no-one can take a frikkin joke".

hmmmm, well as we are decloaking as it were, I'm coming out of facetious mode for a second. I like a good debate and this one is definitely cerebral for SYB. I myself am not offended by naked women and have been an avid fan of Penthouse, Men Only and Playboy for years (probably a reason for my failing eyesight), so the sight of naked women is fairly passé. The use of sex to sell is hear with us to stay, but to be honest you become fairly desensoritised after a while. I've never bought anything because I thought Lisa Harvey was going to swoon lovingly all over my cock.....er, but that's just me (bugger that was facetious, cool wet grass, cool wet grass, cool wet grass, cool wet grass, I digress).

Men objectify women, and women objectify men has been going on for years and will continue, however I will say at one level your argument has merit, there does appear to be an "Over-sexing" of paintball and paintball products, but I don't think this is happening to objectify young scantily glad women (although maybe it is by default), it's paintball paranoia coming into play.

The reason for the "over-sexing" of paintball is the activity in itself is perceived as being war monger'ish, nerdish, or even sad by the wider public. Now I know we all know different, but that's not the perception of the majority of the outside world. Talk to a young lady in a club, things are going well, she's getting feely and touchy with you, she asks if you play sport and your like "hey baby I'm a top paintballer I mugged 6 of Dynasty the other day", and the next few words out of her mouth are going to be "Stop, No and Don't!!!". She's thinking your some compu-nerd running round the woods playing war with your spotty geeky mates (and that's when your not at home playing D&D or Command and Conquer), hardly the ferocious tyrannosaurus-sex she was hoping for.

Ballers in general or certainly in the UK have a certain paranoia about this, so go all out on the sex offensive, and they over sex it. To draw a simile, I have a friend who up until quite recently was the most homophobic sounding person in the world. When your young, people are like, "Oh, man that's gay etc", but that's where you stop. He was like "burn em, stab em, shoot em etc". You know what, couple of years ago he decided to come out of the closet, I mean we all knew, but he thought this would be a surprise. People often fear what they are at a base level. I don't know if I'm articulating it very well but I hope you get my point, I don't really do Freud, and this was just something that occurred to me.

Maybe another way of looking at it, is the way tourney players go on the all out Bling offensive to distance themselves from the Rec-ballers, like were some glamorous bunch and they're rather sad. By seeking to make our selves look good (and socially acceptable), maybe the hand has been over played. I mean listen to the average tourney player and we all drive Escalades with 23 inch platinum rims, and wouldn't be seen dead out in public without a gaggle of ho's (or is it a flock????).

So to sum up my self indulgence, I see your point really I do. Unfortunately I just don't believe that women are harmed by their portrayal in the Paintball press (I mean no-ones putting a marker to their heads), so if it sells let it continue. And besides to those of us with a proven Ho track record, it's water of a ducks back ;););)

Seen a couple of post's from the ladies saying its harder for women, you have to be 50% better etc etc.....

Take Fat ladys Charms, do they have the sponsorship they have for their results or for the fact that they are an all girl team, a couple are pretty fit and at the end of the day Sex sells? After all aint paintball all just about sex and violence??

Got to agree with paul on this. The fat ladys were heavily sponsored even when they had absolutely no game. Having seen them play in Amsterdam I can now believe that they are sponsored at least in part for their ability to play, but mostly because they attract a huge crowd. This huge crowd sees the girls playing with Angels, associates angels with sexy young ladies ripping it up eh viola, more plus points for the Angels image.

But to get back to the original point, if you think PGI is sexist, take a look at a motorbike mag or a car mag. Now there is a set of publications how are writing to their target audience. Any woman picking up one of those mags is going to turn away from the scene unless they are seriously thick skinned.

And i guess a point that needs to be made regarding advertising with women is that some paintball gear needs to havge the likes of keely watson wandering around in skimpy gear. As dye happens to sell ladies clothes! Yes, sex sells, Keely looks sexy in dye casual gear, female readers see keely looking sexy, think they would like to look like her. So they buy the gear! Not rocket science, just human nature.

Reverse also true for blokes. Would any one here buy dye gear if it was advertised with some fat, spotty 24 stoner with no teeth, rather than a well known pro?? Of course not, as you don't want to be associted with fat, ugly people who have no game!

Its all vanity, attractive people in advertising feeds our ego's buy making products that we might wear seem uber bling!

Hope some of that made sense!
