Wake up and smell the coffee

Sex is used to sell everything from sports gear to shower gel. Put a half-naked lady in an ad and the product will sell more..
+ it deffinately isn't gonna stop people percieving Paintball as a sport.

Get over it..

Mother, is that you?
What a great post. So come on everyone let's stick to arguing the points without resorting to name calling and spell checking.

Paintball mags in general seem to cater to men, and why not? Most of the participants of this sport are men. But if Paintball is ever going to be mainstream and if it is truely a sport where everyone is equal than the pball media will have to cater to women.

Yep, readership of pgi reflects the sport as general 99.999% male, and aged between 14 and 26. However, I reject the claim that paintball media must cater for women for paintball to go mainstream. There's a 101 male sports out there that makes no nod to women - footy, soccer, baseball, basketball... they didn't make concessions to become mainstream. Aight, I think you have better arguments than this one.

In this month's PGI for example there is an article adressing the 'Hunting For Bambi' hoax. The writer expresses great dismay at this negative objectifying of women, claiming that people will have the wrong idea about Paintballafter having see it. Adjacent to this article is an ad for Nitro tanks with skantily dresses anime women on them. Then not more then 17 pages later there is an article entitled 'She's All that' . In the introduction the author states that 'if she has the hari, the flair, the face, the legs, she's halfway there'...Can you say HYPOCRACY?!

Absolutely top point. C'mon then bright sparks, why the duel standards.

The truth hurts boys but if this is going to be a sport for all we have to treat everyone equally, sexist advertising and objectifying of women by writers should NOT be tollerated.

But it's not a sport for all. Women don't play paintball on a widescale, and no matter how pc the content of pgi or any other mag, it will not bring more women into the sport. The audience is young men, the magazine and the advertsers give em what they want in an attempt to sell kit. (Just like all the handsome blokes in Cosmo hang around the women wearing Chanel or what have you.)

And guys, come on if you can't argue the bleedin points without slaggings off please don't take part, cos I'm fed up of the ganging up that goes on this site. Top post Aight, keep it up.

i'm afraid that evil use women as much as any other company. Ever heard of the evil twins?

I think you would be much better focusing on the womens magazines that portray an image which is then forced upon other women.

The amount of trashy magazines for women that are bought by MILLIONS of women which causes more damage than you could possibly imagine, with women trying diets to ensure they "look" the part.

This is sexism promoted by women. Do you see men buying magazines full of male celebrities then getting all worried about how they look - not a chance.

You have a point and I agree with you - but get off your aggresive high horse and try dealing with a far greater danger.

You da man, Aight. Seriously. Fight the power. Doesn't matter if you're right or wrong.

Re: the mag. It's not quite a fair comparison cus the one item--Bambi--was commentary on an international news item while the other was a light piece of entertainment. The real hypocrisy is the clowns who run around decrying the the "harm" of Bambi on Paintball's image while happily lapping up their own paintball eye candy. Apparently, if you already like Paintball it's Ok but if you know nothing about Paintball, it's bad.

As to making Paintball more inclusive--the impact of typical advertsiing is unlikely to marginalise participation in any significant way. Besides, some forms of paintball are by nature inclusive and others aren't. After all, tourney ball is naturally exclusive and the dividing line is skill and performance. Should we look to include more scenario gamers at tournies by not keeping score or handicapping the less skilled teams?

Right then

Tool- I'm not saying I don't like attractive ladies, I do..what man doesn't?? I'm simply suggesting that Pball mags should be laft to pball.

I think we could see more women on the field and i don't think that roles drawn out for women in these mags are ones and woman would fancy. My concern is not with self image, I don't much care about Cosmo.

My apologies to any I have offended, I didn't quite expect to be ganged up on. Dreadfully sorry to hear you thought I was on a high horse. I only intended to defend my position.

I understand that paintball cannot be inclusive in every aspect, but my issue isn't with rec or tourney play, it's with women and paintball. We obviously cannot accomodate rec players, they're in a league all their own. But we can be more welcoming to women, regardless of which branch of the sport they choose.
