So they'rte making these games war-style military recreations, huh?

Do I get to wear my best friend's brains on my sleeve when he gets gogged? Can I go into shock after having my leg blown off with a grenade or claymore mine? OR, better still, can I capture a "German Soldier" and beat him to within an inch of his life in order to get informaiton on troop movements and sizes?

Yeah, there's enterainment.  Forgive me if I sit those games out.

Well, looks like the rec crowd seem to have their sh*t sorted out on the subject: any more "rambo" comments forthcoming from the tourney players, Baca? I seem to have bitten on the last lure. ;)
This will pick up after the holidays.
I find it interesting is all that there seems to be an explosion of scenario games lately. Part can be explained in the branching out of some formerly associated scenario promotors and part can be explained in the notion that supporting such events is a marketing tool for some of the industry. And I personally don't really have issues with whatever fantasy scenario they base their pballing on anymore than I have serious issues with PC and Video games like Medal of Honor or Vice City.
It just seems to be a bit more prevalent than it was and there have been a number of markers introduced lately with decidedly "real" military appearances.
So it doesn't seem unreasonable to say there is some percentage of the rec-player contingent that plays for the Rambo-esque fantasy. I mean, isn't that the whole appeal of thses kinds of games?

And Bud, what's a hat gotta do with anything?

Culture (kul-tur) : A method of making yogurt.

Baca : I've talked about the fantasy aspect of paintball before in PGI. I can't find them in the PGI archives offhand, but here's the basics. Paintball is a safe fantasy. The "Fantasy" for rec-ballers is military war stuff, and the "Fantasy" for tournament players is that they're athletes. It's a broad brush to paint with, but there you are.

I personally dislike the military scenarios because, IMHO, it's disrespectful to the men and women who gave their lives (on both sides of a conflict). Bill Mills, in "Paintball" Magazine, wrote it up best when he tried to rationalise how you would explain to a Concentration Camp survivor that you played a german SS soldier all weekend. It was a very poingnant way to put it.

Going off the subject?...

I agree & understand that some dislike the 'scenario' due to their personal past.

I agree & understand that the 'Future-ball' is where the paintballing's Forte lies.

However, following the posts on this thread. I couldn't help to realise that it is going off the topic.

Follow me here.
Actually to make this point brief. What "Mr.Pink" said hits the spot. Kudos for doing what you're doing/have been doing Mr.Pink.
That is a sure way to open the minds of the general public view on paintball, and in due time word-of-mouth will prevail one day.

But to ban any and/or all scenario game only shows that it is us that we are making it hard for 'ballers image and for the whole industry. To have prejudice upon scenario game is just plain "Ignorance."
Do you all remember where or how the paintball started? Yes, in the woodlands. Certainly not the over-sized-waterbeds that we all use now.

To promote our image, we need to have an open mind. We cannot auto-select what we want the paintball to be, or should be. This all comes with time, and yes yet again time will tell whether the paintball will last and/or have a positive image to the general public.
But in the mean time as with anything, "Pinch of salt."

As for the vets and current active fellows out there.
"Civvies will never understand."
