thats a good idea. also very feasible (sp?) as they could do it while chronoing. only thing i can see wrong tho is you would need some way to input the board to check its setting, the makers of the board would be against an input port device on their board as they would loose sales because people wouldn't buy them if they know they were gonna get caught.

out of intrest, you can see cheater board lights in egos and timmys but what about the markers that done have lcds such as DM's and Shockers. How do marshalls detect those?

so it would just scan to see if the board was good not the mode? that would annoy a few buinisses wouldnt it?
I'm saying the only way to truly eliminate it is make boards that only have that mode... otherwise people would just change modes once they got on the field and we would be in the same spot we are in now... have the board manufacturers make specific boards for NPPL use.. no mode changes... offer them at a bit of a discount in return for some sort of sponsorship... " Official Board of the NPPL" or something along thoughs lines... it will be costly for the players.. but they wont be able to cheat... period...

I know that once some people get ahold of this thread its going to turn into... a cost or effectivness thing.... but why cant we really look at this how expensive would it be?? Sure people are going to have something to say about it, but if your not cheating why would you?

There are plenty of ways to piggyback cheat boards onto even a tournament-supplied board. Unless the chrono ref has time to dismantle the gun to check not only that the board is approved and untampered, but also that it is connected correctly and without any extra gubbins between the board and solenoid, then it doesn't fix the problem.

scrutineers? much like on track days etc, you have to take your car in and have it properly checked over by the saftey marshals, after that it is marked as safe for the day, if you have an off it gets rechecked for any dangerous damage..

for paintball same idea, hand it in at the start of the day, it gets scrutineered, then a security seal goes on the grip(think of what Hpac do with bottles) then all the marshalls have to do is check no-one has tampered with the security seal, and everything is fine, if it has been tampered with, then they dont get allowed to play and the gun has to be rechecked. if they have to change a battery, or similar(eyes etc), either the scrutineer does it, or it has to be rechecked after the change is done.

to me that is feesable.

To recap just a few of the points that have been made in some of the many threads on this subject :
How early will everyone have to turn up, for the scrutineers to check & seal every single marker that will be used that day - 2 hours, 4 hours?
Who will pay for the extra people & time spent on this task? Not just before start of play, but someone available at all times to check when batteries are replaced etc.

But of course the number one problem that was raised in the past is that no gun or board manufacturer is going to let anyone else see more than a tiny bit of their code; it's their intellectual property and . So how do you then check that the particular board in a gun(which could LOOK normal) hasn't got a "cheat mode" programmed in somewhere?

Also, there is no incentive for gun and board manufacturers to produce a bog standard board that is and can only be capable of shooting by the rules of a specific tournament series - if they are all the same, why is their gun/board any better than a (cheaper) rivals.
