I would say no. The PSP is, reffing-wise, too unorganized to worry about such a thing. Heck, the NXL 'announcers' in Philly were cursing, how could anyone expect anything different from the guys on the field?

Really, the only edge the NPPL has in this department is that the constant background music drowns out much of the on-field jabberings.

The rules that're in place are fine, I honestly think the best way to deal with this whole thing is: if you've got tender ears, or you're with someone who does, then stay off the net. There, how's that?;)

Paintball like many other sports is a testosterone-driven frenzy which can lead to tempers fraying and swearing alike.

Singling out p8 is unfair and quite rightly ignorant towards what behaviour is like in other sports.

I agree that phrases such as..."m....F...." etc or a string of swearing is OTT and should be toned down but you will never have it clean.

The occasional venting is gonna happen regardless.
Put up with it (for now) ;)

I would imagine that at Campaing in the Captains meeting just like in Toulouse Niall will emphasise that swearing on fields will not be tolerated, it means elimination in the game right? Will the marshalls have the guts to stand up and be counted, after all, in Toulouse i say judges pull players for swearing on field when it was the Nov/Am B doing it, but when the top Am A/Pro went on the same field, the judges let it go. If it is an elimination offence then there is one judge who will not let anyone get away with it. One man Crusade here we come!:D

However...

In most major sports, swearing AT the crowd will get you a nice fine.

Nick, American football also put mic's on the players so they can get the sound of the hits, and sorta' get 'behind the scenes' with the players, they just delete all the bad stuff before it gets to the t.v. Even if it's live they still run a delay so they can knock out stuff that the sideline sound guys pick up, or whatever other crazy stuff that may pop up. Our sport would definitely have to go that route.

And I agree, we could all do with a little less cursing, but I think we all know it's not ever going to get where it should.:)

If you did the editing bit after fitting mics in the players goggles then it would sound like an episode of Jerry Springer...even the players who don't shout "Get the F*ck of My Motherf*cking field!" will swear, if it is only "Aaagh ! For f*cks sake why can't I hit that F*cker" or words to that effect to themselves ;)

In the Super7, the refs are instructed to warn the players if it's just "heat of the moment" stuff ("this f***in' gun sucks" kinda thing) or give a warning if it's loud. We will pull players for abuse directed at another player or ref.

Having attended all four NPPLs this year, I think the language has gotten a little better. Not as much of the "get the f*** off my field, b****!"-kinda thing being yelled.

As with many other things, we're working it out event by event. Vegas was too strict, Chicago improved and NJ was pretty good. We didn't pull people for say "sh**" when they got hit but we didn't put up with any abuse either.

If you mic'd players today, you'd still be beeping a lot of stuff. At least there's less trashtalk and abuse screamed across the field.

As I recall we were actually encouraged to warn and possibly take penalties for abusive language.

My favorite story from HB is about a Swedish fellow ref who pulled an armband while saying, "No swearing!!! Get the f#&% off the field!!":D
