I've heard a lot of talk about a body of pro marshals being put together, or a marshaling qualification of some kind but are any of these things anything more than ideas and rummors at the moment?

I think we would be better off if there was some kind of universal standard. I've read that next year all the events will be playing the same rules thanks to the UKPSF. This kind of thing is a step in the right direction. (PS. is that all the events or just some?)

I don't think it is yet practical to have a central body of dedicated marshals that are not part of teams, but perhaps some kind of central marshal commitee in the UKPSF could be put together to look in to nationalizing marshaling standards by maybe issuing a qualification.

I didn't make it to this leg. However, I think one thing is worth noting and although I don't know the details, I understand that a team that had committed to marshalling pulled out at the last minute (i.e. the evening before)

Now, if this is true then
a) shame on the team that dropped out...all organisers have to rely on people's word to a certain extent and this is what happens when you let people down at late notice
b) well done to those guys that stepped in at the last minute.

I'm not excusing bad marshalling but I am saying that, from what I hear, it was not Sparklies fault that the experienced team dropped out at the last minute and it was left to inexperieced marshals to do the job.

I heard that Outcast pulled out a week in advance, if thats true then it seems that they are not to blame for the poor turnout.

on a side note how much do most sites charge for a can of pop gave a pound and standing there waiting for change to get none
yeah, I bought one can for that price then realised you could buy 500ml bottles for 70p inside the sports centre...

Having never played a southern event, Im still very good friends with all the Chameleons, These guys have built a great and good reputation from a bad one. Trace, Steve, Ian, Jim, Bambi, Andy and russel, are all very close friends of me and my team, i dont beleive for one second that these guys would do much bad, sure they may have swore, but cmon everyone swares in a tornemant, its common nature when your peeved off. Ian im sorry to hear about what happened, and certinly hope you and the guys can sort it out. See you all soon...

As for the marshelling, i really cannot comment, as i wasnt thier. But i can understand where Ian is comming from.

follow up to some replies

i have read all the posts, and agree with some of the comments.

sparkily, i know that you are trying new stuff from what you were used too. (rec ball) and i also know that you cant control teams dropping out of marshalling.
the comments were meant to be a pointer not a slagging off.

stl19 asking what a 1/4/1 is being threatened for is not argueing.
what actualy happened in the main one im talking about - (not the 3/4/1) was that i mugged a player, up his back as it happened. as i went back behind the barricade he spun on me. the marshal pulled him and i said to wipe me down. it was a clear mug and the marshal was on top of the incident so saw all. he then pulled me and threatened a 1/4/1. if you dont know the rules then you shouldnt be marshalling. simple.

cockers rule im not sure which marshal you are, but i did post that some of the marshals on your field were quite proffesional in thier aproach. mainly the guy with the limp and the tall guy with the dark hair from the middle. the one who tried to sort it out right at the end. cheers to those 2. (and some of other fields too.)
there were probably enough good marshals there to make up 1 maybe 2 fields.

in whole if it wasnt biast marshaling that we were recieving then many of the marshals should be ashamed at the quality of thier work.
we marshal tournements and know it is tough. especialy in the top division games.

Sam, Ian wasn't arguing, he merely asked the judge a question, without attitude or tone. (Not a 1-4-1 Offence).

To which I would like to put a question to you. How many times were you 1-4-1'd for "questioning a few decisions" as mentioned within your post?.

Sam which schedule were you playing to?

Don't really wanna get in to a post war, got far to much goin on.
Just felt the erge ( in brief) to reply to your comments.

Cockersrule, Ian's post...WELL ACCURATE... Sorry mate but your judging was not up to scratch. I watched the whole game.
Unfortunately we had been subject to enough inadequate judging/decisions throughout the day, and felt compelled to swear a bit. We even cursed, plotted, planned and spat on the grass as we left.

DOA Robbo, ain't sour grapes m8 was just an observational fact. Not havin a go at you or your team. Just dissappointed that you were not checked properley when you were hit on the hopper twice.

I would like to thank Sparklie Chick and her crew, together with all the teams we played, and to include all the judges that tried.

Well all i can say is after playing my first M25 league tourny and travelling down from up north i have to say on a whole i really enjoyed the day great site great venue bloody long drive but hey me like me paintball so a big thanks to the Skulls for letting me guest for them a big thankyou to the guys from phsyco pimps alien your a star!! Thanks for L.P.S Adrenaline for the offer of playing for you and also to Wild turkey maz from the Redz for the offer aswell pity i didnt get the message til today :( sorry thanks for the offer!!!
Now the down sides not many but marshalling on a whole was good and fair never had a problem EXCEPT on field 4 those guys were on their own agenda i.e first game we play on there we are informed that we can have guns up from theoff i ask the marshal that at the captains meeting it was stated that guns were to be down and pointing to the starting gate the marshal in question replied "yeah it is but we decided to change it" Pardon there field was the smallest ther the games were the quickest at the tourney on average yet they were the slowest why cos they spent half the time cleanin every barrakade down cronoing everyone to start off with now i heard rumblings of why theuy were being this way but its not my place to say suffice to say they just gave the attitude that they couldnt give a toss which certainly peed me off abit dunno about anyone else!!
The game were also supposed to be starting at 8.30am prompt what time did we start nearer 9am i didnt leave the site til 6.30pm now if thats what its like and from what ive heard it is teams are gonna need to get their fingers out aswell as the tourney organisers enforcing the rules abit more and when games start they start at that time

All in all a good day long but good maybe im just being picky but i knoew for a fact that there are other tourneys held within the uk that have had more teams attend ie Simply The Best and have had the games finished well before 5pm the marshalling issue does need addressing and would make for a good tourney series
when done properly and teams are willing to marshall events> Will i be back juries still out on that one id like to think so but will see!!

Thanks Sparklie great tourney in the end and i know you had your hands full not your fault
So if i now get my arse chewed off now ok i'll get me hat and coat and now step down off me soap box:rolleyes:
