having just returned from reading i thought i had to put this post on.

the tournement had some good points, which northern tournement organisers should take in to hand at more tournements.

there was plenty of parking close on to the marquee, which was in itself big enough to accomodate all the players.
the fields were all set up close enough to the staging area with adequote netting. not many balls came either over or under the netting.

most teams we played and talked to were friendly and some of them even said that they were looking forward to playing us.
most of the play was fair with a few pushing, but not breaking the rules as this is the nature of the game in the top division.

now for the complaints.
the fields were badly set upwith starting bases being off set from each other, and the whole field being un-simetrical to such a point that they were far from being even.
one field had more barricades on one side than the other.

many people have talked about the north/south divide. many say it does not exist. bullsh*t !!!!!!!!!!
not in the playing ability but in the marshaling.

never before have i seen such biast marshalling.
the northern teams that attended never stood a chance with southern players and friends of the marshalls being wiped down on a regular basis when playing the northern teams.
not just us but sad pheonix and a few others.
i have been playing for many years and in that time i have only ever been 1.4.1'd once.
today i was threatened with it on 4 occasions. mainly for contesting very bad judging decisions.
one of them being for......
we were 5/2 up on the astro turf field when i mugged one of the players. i ran through and was dropping in to my next bunker when i was hit on the top of the head. i asked the marshal if it had burst. i got straight up when a marshal from the other side of the field ran over and 1.4.1'd me. what a croc of ****e. i asked why (in no aggressive tone at all) for this he up'ed it to a 2.4.1, two seperate marshals pulled players. we by know getting pissed off contested it and the field ultimate refused to put one of the players back in.
INFULTRATORS i thought you had a little more about you than to make such crap and biast decisions.
to put a rumour to bed. i never threw my marker either at the floor or a marshal after this or any game.
ballers can be worse than women for telling the tale and twisting it to suit.
the team we were playing ( l.p.s adrenalin) could not understand what was going on either. as we walked off many players came up to us and said we were robbed.
the final 1.4.1 threat was the last and we packed up and left with 2 games left to play.
D.O.A ZELOTS, we said this to you at the time, but us kicking off with the marshals was not a problem with you but with the marshals.

not all the marshals were of the same low standard. some were quite proffesional if a little slow. one was even running around as well as he could even after hurting himself and limping quite severly for a lump of the afternoon.
sparkily did her best to sort out the problem that we took to her, even though nothing came of it.

fields were getting well out of sync with the schedule.
teams were coming off one field and being pushed straight back out with only 2/3 minutes to turn around then having to wait for well over an hour for thier next game.

the marshals even stopped for mid-morning tea and sandwiches. very civilised but i thought that was what dinner break was for.

i could go on and on with the complaints but the post will end up like war an peace.

the whole thing has left a sour taste in my mouth and unless the problems are addressed i for one have no intention in playing the southern leagues again.

well ian sums it up pretty well i have to say. The venue was fantastic sparklie, you've definitly shown us there. Grass was flat and most excellent :D however one thing which our team came across was holes in the ground for where the football goals usually go with metal sticking up out of them. this was sorted out quickly with the help of two dustbin lids. Just something to bear in mind for the future.

On to the marshalling....people complain about sad marshalling at MM. You aint seen nothing. This marshalling was shocking. However i'm not pissed off at sparklie to be fair as it was a field of marshalls that backed out last minute which wasn't her fault. We were told on one field that most of the marshalls had never marshalled before and some hadn't even played!!

The game that ian refers to, i witnessed and it was a shambles. Ian got pulled and then a judge started shouting one for one. He was shouting to the other end of the field not really telling a specific person. What this ended up with was one marshall at one side of the field pulling one player, another pulling another player from a different side of the field. Then the first judge started shouting 2 for 1 which meant another chameleon in the middle was pulled. Now one of the marshalls on one side was shouting to the head judge that he'd already pulled the one for one but the head judge took no notice. So what happened in the end was 2 players were taken out of the game and one was reinststed i.e. had his armband put back on when it had already been taken off <---which i thought couldn't happen?!?! Also at no point did ian throw his gun to the floor at all so i don't know where that came from.

Refs calls were inconsistent and some were downright funny. one of our players got pulled for standing on a paintball even after he had told the marshall that he was standing in paintballs. another humourous descision was when one of our players asked a marshall to blow a barricade up before a game and was told that no it wouldn't be done and to use another barricade :D now believe me i have no bad blood towards the marshalls. they have a hard job judging lower divisions let alone division one but they maybe need to be a wee bit more acomodating  all that needs to be done for next year is for sparklie to contract a couple of teams of good marshalls who know their ****.

like ian said the venue was superb, the netting excellent, the teams were cool and some of the organisation was spot on.

all in all sparklie well done for a job well tryed. i imagine you've learned a lot this year. well done again.

We know where u boys r coming from the judging tends to leave a lot to b desired although i thought on the whole the DR crew did a good job!

Its a shame u felt there were bias calls being mde against the northen teams funny cos we got a few clanger and we r south cost boys:) not sure what the 1-4-1 was about in our game against u guys and it was a shame ! The team always play fair its the only way we know how!

I would like to say that not all southern tourneys are like that HG and other SWL events wouldn't stand for biased judging so please don't judge all southern tourneys by this one!

the judging of all the M25's has been an issue and its a real shame cos it has the potential to b an ace series!

Hope to catch u guys at CC

Later

Isn't that a 1-4-1 offence? If a judge has made a decsion then arguing it is a 1-4-1 isn't it?

Not saying that you were in the wrong, and i know i contested a few decisions yesterday. One being that i had sp[ray over my boots, yellow on one, and orange on the other. The ref pulled me oput despite the fact that there was no shell or concentrated paint on my foot. The same thing happened to the player that was shot out just before me, called out for spray on his foot, unlucky Kane. After the game the marshall said to me:

"You had spray on you two times earlier in the game and i let them go, so i thought i would take you out on the third"

And there was me thinking that you had to be shot directly to be taken out!;)

Still, never mind. I thought that the event was the best one so far. The fields were large and led to aggressive play all round. The schedule ran fast and organisationally the event , and the whole series, have been spot on.

I was suprised to hear that sopme of the marshalls on the day had not even played before, let alone marshalled before, but i'll leave it at that.

Just wanted to thank Sparklie for the effort that she has put in to the series, Liz, Kieran and the rest of the crew. You have put on a great series and deserve praise. Hopefully something will be done about the marshalling next year, i have a few suggestions for Sparklie of you are short on teams to judge:

Offer free entry for teams that judge one event for when they enter the next. Although this will cost you financially in the short term, say 1 event, when the other teams hear of the good marshalling they will flock to the event. Everything else about the series is amazing, if the marshalling was consistently of a high standard then attendace would sky rocket and you would make far more money in the long term.

Make it a mandatory requirement for teams in Div 1 to marshall one leg of the series. I think that there are some experienced reffing crews in Div 1, Tigers, Shockwave, Jaguars, Backlash, Shockwave Am, Outcast, all have judged Millenniums this season, and know their stuff. Storm, Ecstacy would both make good judges in my opinion as well. That is 8 teams who would do a fantastic job of marshalling and raise the standard of the event.

:)

ian and crew were rather unlucky on some of the fields, getting 1-4-1 to start with for asking if the paintball hand burst on his head or not  then 2-4-1

i know we all get hungry but how many marshals keep stopping games so they could eat food  surley you would want the games to be over as quick as possible?

on a side note how much do most sites charge for a can of pop gave a pound and standing there waiting for change to get none

i have to say i really enjoyed the day and all the games bar one of them , well done guys you made you selves look really clever on that one

right, just to clear this up, robbo, you were in the 50, with daz AND me watching you as you were in a hotspot, there were 2 chamealons shooting you, and both simultaneously shouted they hit you, we both saw no hits, and then robbo shot these two players, who then started swearing their heads off, not an occasional word, but pretty much every word, and i replied with this is your warning, stop swearing or ill one 1-4-1 you, to which i got f***ing 1-4-1 us then, so i did, and they swore even more....

if you read the rules, it states that swearing is given one warning, then you can either 0-4-1 or 1-4-1.
and i cant believe you would say we were biased, most of the time, i didnt even know what teams were playing each other!!, i said to myself i was going to try my best, and i was, which meant concentrating on marshalling, not who is playing who, i even had a few players come up to me and say i was good, which made the whole day worthwhile for me

Re: eating on field, we were 3 games ahead of other fields so we wanted to get back in sync with them...and it was breakfast time:D j/k

Fair play matey there was defo no way in this world i was hit and there was a judge on me the whole time!

I thought your set of refs were the best (by far) and as for being bias sorry guys that sounds like sour grapes there's no way we felt the judgin was bias (mayb Bad) in any of our games and it's a bit sad if its happening!

it was good to have a few northen teams come down catch ya at campaign
