The UPBF is simply the unification of national federations and tournament series
Lane:

I think you are missing something here?

You talked about not wanting the guy from the island kingdom of asdfghagfag (or something) getting an equal say - and I understand the concern.

You then go on to talk about PSP people filling all the positions at first - and again I see your point.

BUT... the way I have understood this press release (and please correct me if I am wrong).... a "league" will only get a seat on the board in the absense of a federation for that area?

I mean - it doesn't say that - but it seems logical, that if you have a North American federation that is the umbrella organisation for all the leagues and the players... THEY will be the ones to get seats on the UPBF board - not the PSP?

Otherwise I don't really see how this would work in practical terms - especially a little down the road, when some 30 US leagues of varying size are all part of the US federation?

I mean - what would otherwise be the incentive for forming a federation, if a local league already had the seats on the international board?

At least for Europe, what I would expect to see, would be all the countries suddenly developing a new interest in having national federations - from where delegates for the European board was elected.... from where delegates for the International boad was elected.

For the US, I would expect to see a National federation being formed - probably with subordinate state organisations.

I would expect - a little down the road - that the UBPF is effectively separating industry and promoters from the players (organisationally), where the players are organised in the federations - and the promoters putting on events governed by that federation (and the industry probably by then having woken up and smelled the roses - and formed an industry organisation).

If the tournament series and event promoters get seats to dominate the UPBF board, we have really not changed anything... just called it something else.

In short - I HOPE - "federations and tournament series" is only meant as an interim solution, until federations are up and running where the UPBF events are run - after which the "tournament series" part will evaporate from the equation?

Now - if my assumptions are correct - then it WILL effectively mean the (by now infamous) guy from the island kingdom CAN get on the board with an equal say, if the membership votes him in - and the PSP or Millennium Series be completely without representation on the board?

I hope you follow me here - and can give me relevant feedback?

You might not see it happening - but a federation is supposed to be a democratic organisation representing the membership.

If it is a federation of leagues - then that is cool with me - but then it should be made clear.... it just doesn't read that way in the press release.

Basically - is this a federation of leagues - or a federation of players??... and if it is a federation of leagues - I don't really see the point of such an elaborate structure.... much less would do the job just as well :)

Who says it has to be one or the other?

Maybe one continent wants it's leadership chosen by affiliate leagues, and another has it chosen directly by the players.

Even if the former is chosen, maybe some leagues choose how they'll allocate their votes based on what the promoters want, and other leagues choose how to allocate their votes based on polling the people in their league.

You see, it's ultimately up to the players. If you choose to organize leagues where your votes for your federation are decided by the membership, or you choose to play in such leagues, then the federation will have members that are pseudo-directly elected. If not, then the promoters of the leagues you do play will get to vote for whoever runs the federation. You still have an indirect say even then - you can choose to stop playing that league in favor of another league that does give you a direct vote, or start your own league and join the federation and let your players choose how the league votes, or just not play federation events at all.

Even better, as long as new affiliate leagues can join, and as long as those affiliate leagues can choose how to allocate their votes, even if it starts out as a federation of leagues, it can still turn into a federation of players later as player-controlled affiliate leagues take the place of promoter-controlled ones.

There's no reason to impose the same structure on every level of the organization.

I usually do the first time around. But I catch up eventually.

I don't know exactly what to think there. But your logic seems good to me.

I think this is correct.

I think this correct.

In short - I HOPE - "federations and tournament series" is only meant as an interim solution, until federations are up and running where the UPBF events are run - after which the "tournament series" part will evaporate from the equation?
I also believe this is correct.

Now - if my assumptions are correct - then it WILL effectively mean the (by now infamous) guy from the island kingdom CAN get on the board with an equal say, if the membership votes him in - and the PSP or Millennium Series be completely without representation on the board?
I am certain that this is the ultimate goal.

I hope you follow me here - and can give me relevant feedback?
Hopefully, the term relevant being used loosely.

All in all, I think the problem was with my loose use of the word federation. This isn't something that I am acutely familiar with. We have leagues, team owners, players, and fans. You guys have leagues, federations, relegation, and other things that have a far more specific meaning than I am used to, and they are all rolled into the same thing in instances. It will take me a while to be able to discuss these things while using those terms in complete context. My native language is Southern Baptist, you know.

So, I think that your words matched my idea of how things will run far better than my own. I think that we see this thing happening, if all goes as planned, exactly the same way.

Now don't joint effort on the "outing" of Ms Watson is to be taken lightly. She will be highly upset. Her annointment was to be her first official announcement from the throne. You and Gyro will have to answer for this eventually.

The NPPL would like to thank all of the team representatives who devoted their time to Saturday's 2006 NPPL Annual Meeting. The attendees spent hours giving valuable input on rules, format, safety, entry fees, prizes, marketing, venues and much more. They voted on several key issues surrounding the league and formed task committees to ensure follow up.

NPPL President Chuck Hendsch is now in England discussing these details with NPPL Super 7 World Series promoters, Pure Promotions.

More information from these meetings will be released in the days to come.

If you are not currently on the NPPL Mailing List, please sign up today on the homepage of www.NPPL.tv

All the best,

Camille Baker
Wonder what they have got up their sleeves?

The NPPL have only two options as I see it, they either put a squib up their ass and get back to the integration table or they adopt an XBall 5 man format or similar.
Strategically these are the only options because the alternative is to continue what they are doing and without any attendant outside sposnor to support the NPPL or a TV deal that provides sufficient income, then I'm afraid things don't look so rosey.

I honestly don't think people have read the signs correctly here but if they have then I think they may have let some people have a say that should have been left way outa the loop.

Another corner looms, I wonder what's around this one......

I disagree

NPPL still has a pocket card to play - tha ESPN deal. You gotta think that they are talking to outside companies on a daily basis, and that those talks include a showreel of tha ESPN footing and a list of times and dates for when tha episodes are gonna be shown.

I don't see what has happened as any more or less of a hit to tha NPPL than when Millennium decided to play XBall in 2004.

We still need to see who jumps where within the industry when it comes to league sponsorship. And how many companies can afford not to have a vendor presence at HB?

I think there are still a lotta rounds to play...what are you gonna do with nexus Robo? Stick or twist?
