In order to come under the firearms act something has to be classed as a lethal barreled weapon.
Barreled yes, but the other two are less clear.
Firstly concider that plastic bullets are not counted as lethal. The fragible nature of the intended ammo is important, but even with hard ammo it has been used by the authorities in a non-lethal capacity.
And a "weapon" is defined by the purpose for which it is used. A brick is a weapon if you use it to attack someone, but i'm pretty sure my house ain't built of weapons. Similarly if you cloat someone with your boomstick you are using it as a weapon.
But i'm not a lawyer. Perhaps we should speak to one, of course they couldn't tell us the outcome of any trial, just give us there best proffesional estimate as to what they think a trial would conclude. Hang on aren't the HO people qualified to advise us of this as well. Of course they still couldn't tell us the outcome of the trial. That sounds kind of like what they said.
