Desktop PCs are precisely that... for the desktop. Server architecture is a completely different game. If anybody came to me pitching to sell server space on something like that I'd throw them out the door quicker than I can shoot them in the ass with my shocker ;)

COLO places do it for people who are on a budget - and that's what you get - a service on a budget. False economy in my opinion, and a lesson learned by paintballchannel no doubt.

Even if I was forced to use COLO services, I'd still buy a rack-mount server with all the multiple redundancy and resiliency hardware built-in. They're not that expensive, and since you're not paying for all that gamer sh!t you can spend it on proper server hardware.
Im with ya, just saying that it's fairly popular :)

I'll get some pics of my server as soon as i can, its a beast

BUT 'desktop' Pc's can be whatever you want them to be, my old mail server was in a similar case, but had everything i needed and worked fine....now its in my loft doin nothin since i replaced it :)

Yeah, totally... my house is littered with old PCs which I use for mail/web/ftp/mp3/DivX/HA servers, etc etc.

I guess it's a case of "Don't do as I do, do as I say" :D

At least when my servers go down, it's all my own fault and I know how to fix them. ;)
