Just recently on anoughter thread I went off on a guy because he was talking about upgrading his 98 to look like an M-16. I said some things that weren't exactly nice and told him that he wasn't wanted in our sport. I know this was a bit harsh and I should have handeld it better and I am sorry for it.

Heres my question. What do you guys think about it? Do you think its good for our sport to have people decked out in full millitary gear and using a mock machine gun, running through the woods or playing at the local field, or is OK and I shouldent worry about it. And what do you think about the whole gun/marker lingo.

I read the thread and to be honest although you did go a little strong your heart was in the right place, if you want to become a battle re-enactor or anything to resemble real war go do that but paintball NOW is not anything like that. So I feel you were right to suggest that the person stayed away from the paintball scene (of course you didn't do it in the most polite way)...however if the same person wants to play paintball as it is then sure welcome them with an open mind, but as a note to that person, don't try and mould the current paintball scene to something else you have an interest in. It does take all kinds to make a world but this paintball family doesn't like to remember the roots of the sport, which for once I think it is a good thing to forget the weekend rambo image....not to the result that we stop playing in the woods. police training involves replica guns made from paintball markers but that is for training for a job not fun.
So in short yes it is bad to be a pseudo soldier in paintball.

its a marker! GUNS really really hurt. (notice the full stop)
as for people like that
all we can do is advise them not to and make them see what damage it could do to the sport.
but who am i to tell someone they can't have something!
:rolleyes:

Since we are the ones that try and prommot the sport to the public in the best way posible. I'm not saying that rec players don't help but your not going to see many rec games on TV. We try to show the public that we are not all crazed survivalists running trough the woods trying to "kill" each other. (not that there is anything wrong with playing in the woods. I like playing woods games)

Not many places have tried to ban paintball because of the tourny image. It usually comes from the milliant image and the mock guns and killing.

Mother, is that you?
Jynx,

We're all the same.

You play with inflatables, I play in the woods;
You have your angel, I have my Tippmann;
You have your thermals, I have my camp stove.

I, and my kind, bring more people into paintball than any of you shrivel-penised tourny players, tv or no tv.

Rancid:

Please by all means keep your Tippmann, and feel free to play in the woods, I personally love my electro-x-million-balls-per-second-ultra-splatter-toy, and my inflatables etc.

Don't get me wrong here, I 'grew up' in the woods, using a Sterling pump, and still like to go out for a rec day here and there.

BUT:

All we ask is that you keep your Tippmann as a Tippmann, not as a replica firearm.

That's what Airsoft is for.

No disrespect to airsoft, but that seems to be where the "weekend warriors" tend to be these days. Of course, that could just be my un-educated perception of airsoft, in which case, I apologise.

But, when you see the kit that airsoft players/participants use, it looks like a "wargame" type scene.

Am I just showing the same ignorance towards airsoft as people show towards paintball? I don't know.

Temper Temper Rancid. yes I play tournaments all I was trying to say was if you want to be a psuedo (fake) soldier go and do that.
If you want to play paintball ...um play paintball and yes the rec scene is huge and they do tend as newcomers to the sport consider it "playing soldiers" but the person who posted the reason for this post answered another who wanted to take a Tippman all made up to look like an M16 together with a firing stand and carry handle

Do you seriously think that kind of image is good for the sport and given that PGI is part of a company has other publications not too sure if they still or even did do the shooting mags but Pete Moore I know used to be very involved with PGI (can't remember the title of the mag back then) and also wrote reviews of real guns....but for the other publications....and no I don't read those other mags I actually delivered the guns to his house for review so thats how I know

Rancid, u only stay in the woods and dress up in all that cammo **** coz u can't hack it in the real world of tournament paintball.

U would get your ass lit up like Las vegas if u ever ventured near a Sup'Air Ball field.

Stay in the woods Rancid with your little gun, pretending to be a bad man, running around with your little assignments and leave the rest of us real men to play the game as it should be.......hard ass and in your face...not sniping like some wussyboy !!!!
