wood ball dosent cost as much as tourne ball. if you wanted to play woodland ball all you whould have to do is get the kit and some frends with kit and find a wood. but tourne ball you have to pay to go to tournes. just my view of things.:D

i'd like to hope not very many folk from these forums would be doing that

As far away from you as possible
hopefully we are, Im in a WOODSBALL team yes not scenario woodsball, people seem to couple the two together, I am getting an angel but want to play woodsball an dhopefully we will soon see something like the american sppl leauge here.
I personally hate all mil sim stuff but really enjoy a big battlefield and wish we had propper woodsball tornements, whilst keeping torny ball(im gonna go fo rmy first game soon).
I think the woodsball game in England is VERY undeveloped , although there are lots of scenario and "BIG" games around with fanatasy settings ect.
I prefer woodsball since it requires a lot more elements, stealth, snapshooting and a lot of techniques like in speedball(if clearing a base or hut for the flag you need to keep very low profile whilst clearing it).
I don't enjoy the term playing army though since I think we should have a propper leauge.
Still i enjoy both :D paintball is paintball.

UNdeveloped isn't really what's up with woodsball. When I was first playing there was ONLY woodland paintball (bar 2 tournaments a year, the speedball and arenaball events). Sup Air hadn't been invented, even hyperball didn't exist. There were as many if not more woodland tournaments as there are air ball now; in the London area alone we had the Home Counties League, Doug Setters 2 series at Sidcup and Eurosplat, Campaign, Dragon's Lair, Detling, Holmbush and a few others and if we wanted we could play a tournament just about every week - all in the woods.

But when the various types of arena paintball started, especially when the internationals went over to them, that's the format everyone wanted to play and by 4-5 years ago the best you could get was a mixed series with half the events in the woods and half concept. The demise of woodland tournament was demanded by the players themselves who in general preferred the quicker, even more adrenaline fuelled formats.

But if you want to play tournament in the woods, have a look at www.genesispaintball.co.uk . A number of site owners have got together and run a mixture of woodland events including tournaments, both in the north and the south east.

Getting Up Again
Its simple economics.

"tournament" players have become too 'sophisticated' a crowd of consumers; the second thing a tourney player learns is how to get a 'hook-up' for gear (the first thing being that they can expect to play for free sometime in the future).

recballers are ignorant consuming sheep, get regularly fleeced and seem to enjoy the process.

any business owner who has a choice between a 2% margin and a 70% margin will take the larger of the two without question; its just a bonus that they eliminate a lot of whining and begging in the process as well...

Ohhh the Age old argument of Tournies Vs Woodsball, Bliss.

I play both and enjoy both, I’ve heard all the arguments but still I sit on the fence, I've all the heard comments like "look at them twoots playing in there BMX gear or look at them wanna be Rambo’s.

Fact is Woodball is the biggest growing sector of the sport at the moment and with so many more sites popping up all over the place it seems that Joe public want to throw on some camos pick up a custom 98 and run round the woods shouting something like "asta la vista baby"

The problem is Tournament players have forgotten that most of us went down to our local site picked up a crappy old marker (pumps for some of you more mature) and a co2 bottle and that was it, we where hooked.
Ok our game has now evolved to a much faster and adrenaline fueled sport but it all stemmed from Woodsball.

Just accept it guys Tournies would not exist without woodball it's the Joe public that come in and pay there hard earned money that keeps sites and suppliers in business, We then get better prices better sites and if your lucky some punters to shoot at a walk-on......... And so the argument goes on

totally agree with you ian g most tournie players forget that this is where the next generation of tournie players will emerge from ,this is why we need a good woodland structure of sites that promote paintball. that is why we as tournie players should not knock ppl that play woodsball but encourage them to try our format aswell.we are now lucky that sites in the north, south and midlands have joined forces and come up with the genesis paintball . this comprises of walk ons ,big games and 5 man tournies,as this develops it will give paintball amore stable platform and a larger pool of players ,with any luck a percentage of these players will convert too sup-air giving us more teams .so i for one welcome the resurgence of the woodland scene ,you never know we might see the next ollie lang emerge from this.if you want to see what the genesis 5 man tournies are like go to powerplay wakefield this sunday (4.6.06) and take alook you might be suprised:D
