Who said anything about banning goggles without chin-straps?

Surely the rule being discussed is that modifications cannot be made to goggles from the manufacturers original designs and specs.

This rule is being stuck to, and an unfortunate side product of not going back to the good old days of no ear armour and cut down faceplates means that by banning the cutting of faceplates/removing of ear armour, that you also cannot remove the chin straps.

Although I believe that in the (no to distant) future it'll be a requirement that ALL goggles have chin-straps, for now I'm not bothered.

The fear of chin straps (this whole "well I won't play if I have to wear a chin strap" thing) is probably very similar to the whole "what do you mean I have to use a specific paintball goggle, and not these workshop glasses!" and also the "well if we have to have a faceplate, I'm giving up" and "where the hell did this ear armour come from? nuts to that, I'm quiting the game that I enjoy cos somebody has my best interests and health and safety at the forefront of their mind".

<sarcasm>
Mind you, I did hear that gloves are going to be compulsary from 2007, so I'm definately quitting if that happens...

Simple solution--buy a goggle system that comes sans strap.
PS--why is everyone is marketing their goggles as systems these days?
Because a system can sell for more than a 'seperate'?

'Cos it sounds good of course! and because product works only as well as it is hyped.

and because we all love buzz-words.
Buzz-words Rock!
Better advice though would be to buy a gogle WITH a chin strap, and then let it hang down like the cooler 'grunts' in Tour of Duty.
Man that looks cool...

the bonus is, you already have chin straps for next year when they will undoubtedly become compulsary, although they will be marketed as 'slide straps' or 'Pro-straps' or 'Hyper-strap Systems', and will come with cool logo's and built-in 'bounce-pads', then we will all rush out and get them coz they will be so cool, and those without 'Hyper-strap-systems' will be total chumps, and look like 'newbs', and will be totally last season.

Then the millennium will ban 'Hyper-strap-systems' and we can think of something else thats really cool to buy - yay!

well if protection is now the key word lets all dig out our VENT PREDATOR GOOGLES with the built in skull cap and throat protector circa 1993ish and if i remember rightly there was a big fuss when these came and went due to where do you draw the line at protection and deflection (bounce) .

at the first leg of the MM i was knocked over by a player and as i fell down my googggles went flyin so all i could do was bury my head to the ground with my beanie hat pulled down until assistance arrived 5 seconds later.

but must admit for those few seconds i was **** scared into what might or could have happened.so all players if youve got straps wear em if not look into investin in some

these rules are starting to get stupid, what next, full head to toe kevlar body suits''for our safety'',yeah right,so what if we want to wear chin straps or not,it's our safety, thats what we sign disclaimers for,so the site owners dont have a come back on them.if i am wrong some where than i am but this is just what I think.

how about we just ban flexs all together and then we dont have to worry about chin straps!

I dont even know why i wear one(no chin strap) my worst injury came from one.

Faceplate got hit by a number of balls as i was shouting in a game last year at ancaster or uttoxeter as the plate was hit it bent inwards and the next couple of balls went in my mouth and hit the back of my throat! Was coughing up blood instantly as it had badly damaged the back of my throat couldnt speak for two weeks:(

So ban the flexible faceplate cos of something that might happen once in while:p
And markers that fire fast as one or two balls could not have bent the faceplate :p
And all masks without chin straps as someone might fall and lose there mask:rolleyes:

where do you wanna stop to make it totally safe dont play.

This is a dangerous sport and everyone knows that while playing it you could be seriously injured or die. Im all for safety but even things which we think are safe can still let us down. With a chin strap your mask could still come down seen it happen once when a guy fell head first his mask was round his neck:eek: chin strap would not have helped then.

finished my ramble now killed a bit of time:D
